This morning I am driving to the marina to buy a hole in the water. 20 foot pontoon boat with a 60 hp engine. My wife thinks I am crazy and I sort of agree with her. It's been about 4 years without a boat and the itch is back.

Foolish I know.

Congrats. I'd love to have a boat, but there's too much overhead involved. Post some pics when you get back.

Build your own, it will be just as leaky :awe:

I feel most at home on the water. Miss my boat too man. Living in the midwest has its big dissadvantages if you like sailing.

What are you calling i? call it the ATOT and take a picture!

Is a pontoon boat really a hole in the water? Isn't it more of a wobbly picnic table?

You COULD just send all that money to me...and save yourself the headaches and frustration that comes with owning a pleasure boat...:p

The two happiest days in a boat owner's life?

The day he buys his boat...and the day he sells it.

My uncle bought a 19.5' 2005 Monterey bow rider with an I/O 4.3L Merc. So far in the last year it has 2 new engines and every weekend something else breaks. Beautiful boat though.

This weekend it is going back to the shop with a throttle problem.

Always be ready to Break Out Another Thousand.

In my 25 years of owning multiple boats & jet skis I have yet to break a $1000. Gas is another story. Current fleet is a pontoon boat, bass boat, sea doo spx & yamaha wave runner.

Boats, planes, and horses - some of the things that require constant maintenance even if they aren't used!

How much does a boat cost these days? On my way home, I see a billboard for a nice looking 16' speedboat that is "nicely equipped" for $46k.

Yamaha makes 1.8L jet boats that start under 30k. It kinda depends on what you're looking for. A true 'speedboat' is probably more in the area of 40k+, yeah (new, that is).

The generic V-hulled boats are already ass-breakers. I couldn't imagine flying through the air in an actual performance boat.

Damn. I was curious so I went to browse their site, and you get a lot more for your money that I really even thought you did.

That's a pretty sweet little boat. Makes me miss going out on the lake in similar (albeit more primitive, and of course prop-driven) boats in the 90's. Strangely enough, I doubt they costed any less at the time.

I don't really get the appeal of pontoon boats. Why not just something like the above with a good amount of seating, shallow draught, ect? What can you do on a pontoon that you can't do on a sportier model? Breakdance? :D

I'm into my third season on my 03 Starcraft deck boat with merc 350 I/O. It has been relatively kind to me. Probably haven't exceeded $1500 in maintenance/repairs since I've owned it. Only had to be towed out of the lake once. I figure that's pretty good.

I grew up with a speedboat. Was a 1998 harris floatboat with a 175hp i/o. Good boat. Lots of fun skiing and tubing behind it.
Now that I am old, and my kid is quite young, I want something a little more relaxing than a speedboat. Pontoon has enough power to take my daughter and my nice and nephew tubing. What I can do on a pontoon that I can't do on a speedboat is carry 11 people and go slow around the lake.
Easier to get in and out of than a speedboat as well.

Delivery should be in 2 weeks since I have to attend my nephews graduation party next weekend so I won't be at the lake house.

Now to order a damn pier. Talk about a scam, those things are ridiculously expensive and now I know why I held off all these years.

From what I understand, it applies to house boats.
