AFter watching "chicago"...i'm kinda in the mood for musicals and why not no?....(no i'm not teh ghey)....so i rented a whole bunch of 'em..like "evita" (suxors..only chics dig this one...) and "hair"....
this movie brings up a lot of underlying issues of its time...and for some reason, it strongly reminded me of the civilian response that we get from the war in iraq .....i rented it tonight and saw it ...(yeah people who hate treehuggers will flame me, and i hate tree huggers as well....well, during that time, i guess they were "appropriate".....but these times they're not...but that's what free speech is for eh?)
anyways, about the movie..it's a musical about hippies and the vietnam war......think about that war, USA wasn't really directly threatenned, but JFK wanted to flex his anti-communist muscles and it carried onto LBJ blahbalbhalbhalbh u knw the rest...
now, we've been spoon fed these "facts" on why we should attack Iraq, ......USA isn't directly threatened @ the moment..it's just a potential threat..just like vietnam......actually, just kill all the commies back then, make sure commies don't spread all over the world.....same thing today....don't let terrorist support groups spread....blahblah...(we let vietnam be commies anyways....cold war over..end of story...what a waste of life IMHO)
the movie is very ironic and stuff....
one thing that struck me hard during the movie is when the main protagonist argues w/ an upper class aristrocrat ...the main character attempts to explain to the aristrocrat why is this kid going to war (a friend of his that he met randomly....he's more like an "observer" who gets drafted into the war....a kind of lower class farm boy from oklahoma)
well, times are very different now of course..but i couldn't help but think about times these days....blabhablhbah
just my 2cents for today....change in urs....
(oh yeah, well, i'm 21 yrs old...this movie is way out of my time.....but i'm sure some of the songs..especially the finale...u'll recognize......just like how couple songs in "grease" was recognizable..just got that small epiphone(sp?) in my brain going "oh that's where that friggin song came from!")
