i bought a microsoft sidewinder game pad on clearance from office max today for $25 from $50. when i got home i noticed that this particular model is more that a year old and does not use usb but the game port. anyone know about whether this model is better than the new usb game pads (the ones with the translucent colors) which sell form about $15. should i return what i bought and go for the newer model. the old one seems to have more buttons that the new one. anyone know which is better ?

the ones they made years ago kick ass. if that one works keep it. other than a sore thumb you shouldn't have any regrets with it. usb is nice but not a necessity. i have a usb freestyle pro but really wish i would have gotten another origonal sidewider. alot of those pads are gameport anyway and just have a usb adapter so it's not a big deal imo. those things are great.

Those real basic old ones kick ass (D-pad, 6 buttons, and L & R, right?). The best part is that you can chain them. Go to Control Panels -> Gaming Options -> Add..., and add Microsoft SideWinder (Auto Detect), you should be set.

I have one of the old ones that I've been using for 3 years and I love it. It's indestructible.
