It's the extent and ferocity of the Bush bashing that causes my eyebrow to raise.

WTF? You must miss the obvious all the time. Conservatives bash Clinton on stuff totally unrelated to the subject at hand. Always resorting to some BJ remark.

Bush is currently president and pushed us into a war half the world is outraged about.

What do you expect exactly??

Like I said, you and Natalie Whatshername are free to express yourselves, but don't take the moral high ground when people criticize you back and cry about how people are repressing your free speech by assuming their own.

....and don't you take the moral high-ground when people are using their own free speech about your free spech about their free speech.

If I was doing that, I'd be criticizing the criticizers of the Dixie Chicks. I'm pointing out that the people criticizing the criticizers of the Dixie Chicks are guilty of the same thing as the criticizers of the Dixie chicks, but they're assuming the moral high ground on the issue of free speech. They're the first in this progression to use the issue of free speech and THAT is what bothers me.

That's what people want. We were flooded with calls and emails asking us not to play them, so we don't.

People, mostly liberals and anti-Bush/republican types, have absolutly rallied around the Dixie Chicks. Their claim is that The Dixie Chicks are merely exercising their right to free speech. The problem is that nobody is saying that they shouldn't be able to say whatever they want.

The reaction of the general public to the Dixie Chicks is the same as the Dixie Chicks reaction to President Bush. They didn't like what he did so they exercised their right of free speech. Similarly, the general public didn't like what the Dixie Chicks did and are exercising their right of free speech. Why, then, so much sympathy for the Dixie Chicks and villainization of people speaking out against the Dixie Chicks and not wanting their records played? I can only assume that liberals, in their ultimate self-righteousness, believe it's okay to apply a double double standard and, indeed, a triple double standard if necessary to try to turn their agenda into a cause.

Ah well, just wanted to point out the hypocrisy.

I agree. Well put. No sympathy here for the Dixie Chicks.

And I wrote/e-mailed my local station and said if you DON'T play them I will NOT listen.

Most stations, if not all, around here are still playing them. Good.

Aren't you threatening the radio station with the same action other listeners are threatening the Dixie Chicks with? That's all fine and good, just do not claim moral superiority in your defense of free speech because that is NOT what this is about...that's all I'm trying to say. People who simply agree with the Dixie Chicks political stance are claiming they're defending free speech when that's obviously not the issue.

Thye local stations around me made an ammend to not playing them. Npow everytime after they play a DC song, the play a patriotic song. Seems to be working.

I think the real outrage at them stems not from free speech, but the fact that they said these things while on tour in other countries. Kinda the whole we can make fun of our family, but it doesn't go outside the family. whatever you view on bush is, you should put him down in other countries, and you should support him b/c he is there now, and really, we don't need another vietnam. Or actuualy, as I say, if nothing else support our troops and stand behind them, they are our brothers, sisters, father, mothers and friends.

Just because you can say anything you want does not protect you from the whiplash your comments may cause. Same thing with the Trent Lott issue. Just because someone says that all the French should drop dead, does not guarantee that the french will embrace them with open arms. Get a fricking clue if you believe they should. Here's where we seperate the people who take responsibility and those who don't, what category are you in?

So are you saying the people that support the Dixie Chicks should be silenced? You appear to argue that they have no right to support them and they should not say what they want. Does that mean you have a double double double standard?

You have the right to say that, but you are being the biggest hypocrite of them all...

Exactly, you think the poor Dixie Chicks are having their civil liberties repressed because people, for whatever reasons whether it be politcial disagreement or music taste, don't want stations to play their records. The Dixie Chicks are be censored no more by the requests of radio station listeners than President Bush was censored by their comments.

The moral of the lesson for the Dixie Chicks...if you're going to excercise your freedom of speech to make bold statements, be prepared for bold statements of free speech to be made against you and don't cry about it when it happens and don't claim you're freedom of speech is being trampled on because people voice their freedom of speech in dissent of yours.

also notice how when comments like that are made when "they" have a captive audience, cramming their rhetoric down yuor throat ala Micheal Moore, and DC at a concert... cant exactly get up and leave/change the channel...

BTW, DC are pretty homely...

Funny, that's the same thing people from Dallas say about them.

No. Please read it again and/or graduate from a basic literacy course and/or stop trying to argue against strawman arguments.

I realize that you didn't come right out and say that they should be silenced. That is why I posed that as a question (as opposed to a statement). However the feeling that readers get from reading your rant is that you wish they were silent. If that is what you want us to feel, then you are being a hypocrite as well. If that is not what you want readers to think, then you should reword your post or at least edit it and clearly state your opinion.

What the double standard is, most radio stations have banned the pro-america/pro-bush/pro-war songs that other people have written, because they fear "they might offend someone" but when the Dixie Chicks offend alot of people with comments that expect to still be on the radio.

I think he is saying he doesn't want to hear them bitching about the stink they caused by their loose lips. If they can't take the consquences, then watch what you are saying. True it is their right to bitch about the stink, but that just adds fuel to the fire. Thus had they never said it, they wouldn't be in the stink they caused. No responsibility being taken.

That was a pretty weak response... I am dissapointed. Well at least you spelled "Dumbass" right this time but I think we both could use a lil help in the grammar department so don't throw rocks bub. I'll pass on giving you a link for grammar. ;) Usually I get pissed off when someone flames me but I don't see you as a threat but more of an amusement :p so unless you are a flagburning homo liberal type I'm through with you.

The lead singer was on Politically Incorrect damning the guy beside her for smoking medicinal pot, then admitted that she wasn't happy with the way the last song on their then-new album turned out because she had had a little too much to drink the night they recorded it. Plus she said she wanted to ban coffee because caffine is a drug and put all cigarette smokers in jail. So she's not liberal, just a hypocritical twit. I don't understand why she doesn't love Bush.

Sounds liberal to me. Many people seem unable to realize that a great many liberals are very authoritarian in nature with the nanny-state "for your own good" laws they would like to pass.
