About that hp Touchpad--when would anyone need the 32GB over the 16GB?

I think even at 99-150 bucks its not worth it. No rear camera, no msd slot, obviously no apps or upgrade. pretty useless IMO.

Well, for one, who would use a rear camera with a tablet. Most people won't ever take one out of the house unless you have really big pockets.

Also, who needs apps when you can use a browser? Heck, Chrome or Firefox can do just about anything most people need to do. No MSD slot? So what? Just as long as I can connect to an external HDD or NAS.

No upgrade? Ok, now that does suck, but I'm comfortable with the Open Source community taking this one by the horns.

To summarize, I GOT A TABLET AND I DIDN'T NEED TO PAY OUT THE ARSE TO GET IT.
For now it works, I expect it to work for a while, and when both our tablets die I'll only be out $150 + tax.

Humpff, did I tell him or what? Guys??

I went with the 32gb so I could dump music and movies on there. I've already got it filled. It's nice for trips in the car without wifi.

I've actually seen a lot of people lately using their Ipad2's to take pictures lol. And a wedding I went to they used them for their digital photos.

It looks ridiculous when people take pictures with a tablet.

But if people figure out a way to load Android on it...

I just dont see this happening. Even if all supposed 500k sell that may not be enough for a full fledged effort.

@bupkus. How is a browser a replacement for apps?

I use my rear camera on my transformer all the time, for uh, home movies.

You're an idiot. It's 99-150 for a WEB DEVICE. Something that gives you access to the web in your hand. Not a neutered internet experience like Android and iOS offer. I can't stress this enough. This by far is the most complete tablet I've had the opportunity to use and it really shines. It's not as polished as the iPads are, but the OS is far superior and it's web browsing functionality + FLASH(720p off Youtube NO LAG) is a seller. I refuse to buy a product which can't offer me a complete web browsing experience. Android sucks at it and so does iOS. User Agent switchers, other browsers, they're ok, but they still SUCK royal donkey cock in comparison to what the Touchpad brings to the table.

Oh, it will happen...

Actually, I don't know shit about what's involved, maybe it's not even possible, but if it was I'd like to think these dudes can do it.

If I can do everything through one applications, the web browser, why do I need a ton of specialized apps bloating down my storage? Derp a der.

Ok, I'll fess up, I don't know what an app will do for me. I just use desktops and laptops.
Convince me how necessary apps are to the TouchPad.

useless? really??? that didnt stop people buying the ipad 1 at 500 bux. no rear camera. not even front cam. no msd slot. no standard usb slot. and most of all, people had to put up with itunes! yet somehow they didnt mind.

im loving my touchpad. just plug into any pc and dump files onto it like a usb flash drive. never have to deal with itunes. ever. i think thats gotta worth something.

Well said.

Honestly, I don't make good use of the 32gb of space on my ipad 2. When encoded to work on the ipad movies only take up 1-2gb of space, apps take up a couple of gigabytes total (I have quite a few), and photos take up a negligible amount of space. Most of my space is filled with podcasts that I already have my ipod for, and music that I rarely listen to at all. If I could go back and buy it again I'd definitely get the 16gb model.

I say this because I got a chance to play with a touchpad before I gave it to my mom, and it seems to me that the space usage will be similar but with less emphasis on apps (because there aren't as many).

What are you? 10 years old?

Wow, this forum has really gone to shit lately.

You dont think it is a good deal, fine by us, that means someone who will appreciate it will get one instead of you. The fact is Android 2.2 is already running 2.3 is on the way and ICS is going to be ported as soon as the source code is released. WebOS is good enough for web browsing and other basic activities until then, not to mention HP is still going to continue with WebOS (for now) and will still be tweaking the OS.

Lets not forget WebOS is quite a bit easier to develop for compared to iOS and Android. Javascript + CSS? lols....

Isn't the whole point of encoding movies for a tablet to decrease the amount of space they take? I can play any old ~700MB AVI movie just fine on my sister's iPad. No encoding needed, just play via an app (in my case AV Player).

it isnt released, but qualcomm has an internal version that has made its way into a few units released to the public. So we know it is possible we just arent sure what EXACTLY is the way to do it yet. 😉

Well, I'm talking about HD blu-ray rips that I've encoded using handbrake. Going any smaller than ~2 gb usually results in picture quality that is unbefitting of something I'm calling "HD". Going from 20gb to 2gb is a pretty extreme compression to start with.
