? about removing/reusing ram sinks on 7900GT W/ Zalman VF700...

my 7900GT is being RMA'd & I've installed the Zalman VF700 HS/fan on it & will obviously have to remove it & put it on the new card...2 questions:
1. will the ramsinks just pop right off or are they a b**ch to remove? don't wann physically damage anything
2. what can I use / do for ramsinks on my new card now that the ones I am removing will seemingly be useless (thermal pads)?
help would be VERY much appreciated

kinda..the thermal tape is pretty much borked. You need to clean it off (isopropyl alcohol) then apply new thermal tape...

They should twist off reasonably easily...

I personally reused the ramsinks with the original thermal tape, and had no problems whatsoever, even on a x1900xt.

at the end of the day mem overclocking benefits tend to be slim with ram sinks, personally my ram oc was about the same pre & post zalman vf700 cu...

I just saw vastly lower GPU temps, and a nice GPU oc...

I know EXACTLY you're talking about.

I have a 7800GT, and I got a better 7800GT (BFG for eVGA) and so I just popped the ramsinks off. A little twist helps. It comes off relatively easily.

I then bought these: http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/akshintherin.html

There are 8 RAMsinks, so you need 2 squares. Cut them each into 4 smaller squares (4 squares per big square x 2 = 8 small squares). They're not super sticky at first, and can fall off, but once u heat them up. they stay....

thanks for all the help/info guys....Delirium: the thermal tape you link sounds great but is also pretty expen$ive sadly :(
the more i see the more I think ill just OC the GPU & let the ram be...also means I wont have to try the relatively difficult pencil shading trick :)

Second from the bottom. The link on the site is broked, but you can still add it to card. That roll will last you a lifetime if not more.
