I need some help with with memory configurations. Does anyone know which would be better
1) 2x128 kinston pc2700 ram with 2x512 ocz pc 3200 ram
2) 1x256 kingmax pc3200 ram with 2x512 ocz pc 3200 ram
or 3) the 2x512 ocz ram by itself

I ask this because I just purchased 2x512 ocz ram and my current configuration is 2x128 mb kingston ram and 1x256 kingmax ram. I dunno which I should take out and which to leave in. Its very confusing to think about since I know I shouldn't mix and match but I'm pretty sure that taking it all out and adding only the new memory isn't the best way to go. Someone who knows ram well please help me.

Thanks in advance

If you're running an Athlon64 system you're better off running 2x512 ocz byitself, in fact regardless fo your Proc, I'd just do that for stability/speeds sake. Unless you really need more than 1GB or system memory.

Ah yes sorry I forgot to list my specs:
Dell Dimension 4600
512 mb ram
Windows XP
geforce 6800 LE
Intel pentium 4 2.4 ghz 533 fsb

I do play games Like F.E.A.R and Battlefield 2 so does that change anything?

Thanks again

Well I believe on P4 systems, there is no significant hit for running 4 sticks of RAM. BF2 uses quite a bit of RAM from what I hear, but I still think you'd be better off selling the other ram perhaps, and putting that money towards the purchase of two more 512MB OCZ sticks. Otheriwse, just leave it at the 2X512 OCZ

I really cannot see you getting any performance benefit with 1.25gb ram instead of 1gb ram, so I would stick with just the 2x512mb like the others have stated.

Ok so there isn't much of a benifit of running 2xOCZ 512 with 2zkinston 128 but would it hurt me more than help me? I thinkt he possibility of me getting another 2x512 is very low so I just want to use what I have. I will probably sell the 256 kingmax though since I wouldn't be able to run dual channel with it (only 1 stick). So whats ur input all of the sticks at all better or not?
Sorry I realize I'm sorta asking the same question but if I'm not gonna sell the 2x128 sticks I wanna see if using them will have any benefit at all even if its very little...

Thanks

ITs debateable whether or not you'd see a performance decrease using the two kingston modules. Since your CPU is a 533FSB chip your OCZ is running at PC2700 speed anyway, so in theory everything should run at PC2700. The only thing that would hurt you I guess would be if the Kingston RAM was running CL3 or and your OCZ was CL2 or something like that. The ram will operate at the speed of the slowest stick, so you'd be stuck with CL3 all around.

Best way to find out is to plug in the ram and see if you feel a difference.

ok so I checked the timings of the new memory online and it says its 2.5-4-4-8 and my old sticks were 2.5-4-4-7. I don't know much about CAS Latency except the lower it is the better supposedly. So could someone tell me the difference and whether putting those 2 together would affect each other.

Thanks
