I'm moving out of my parents house (finally) and will need to start feeding myself (haha i just realized how pathetic that sounds - maybe i should say - i will need to start paying for my own food ) -

this is including making myself lunch each day to take to work --

what kind of budget would you say i'm looking at roughly?

i'm hoping i can feed myself for about 200 a month, hopefuly less.

$10

Edit: Here's the break down
1. Bottle of water, $.99
2. Refills, free at your local elementary or jr High school fountains (or even your sink).
3. $9.01 on noodles or bag of rice (note: with rice, you may want to buy some salt).

absolutely you can do it for 200 a month. Much less if you like Mac & Cheese and PB&J :)

You could do it on $50 a month, if you really tried and you liked ramen noodles.

If you buy raw foods in bulk and prepare them yourself, I'd say less than $200 a month. Stay away from the fast food joints and the prepared foods.

$200 is fair. It depends on how healthily you eat (or want to eat), how much variety you want, and how often you want to eat out.

This is HUGELY variable based on your discipline and eating habits.

If you eat a snack bar for breakfast, take a sandwich to work for lunch, but a candy bar in the afternoon and cook a cheap but wholesome meal at night, you can get away with spending <$10/day. If you cook batches of food and eat leftovers, you can drop this down significantly. If you buy your lunch every day and order in your food, $200 is not going to go far...

$200 will do it. I think if you start trimming much from that you'll be going towards ramen noodles and away from real food.

My wife and I spend about 150-200 a month in groceries and maybe 50 on going out to eat....

I eat a lot and she eats a good amount. Just shop smart and dont buy $50 worth of frappucino's every week.

i dont mind ramen and mac and cheese most nights - if i can get at least one real meal a week - i think i'll be okay.

(plus i'm only 15 minutes from my parents house -- i imagine i'll be going home for real food at least once or twice a week)

If you don't eat out very often, you can easily live on 200/month for food. We average 400/month for food for a family of 4.

I eat on less than $100 a month, but I cook quite a bit. If you want to buy fresh fruits and vegetables and the like for cheap, find a local farmers market....that is where the goods are...fresher, cheaper, and better tasting!

I live off 300-400 CAN per month but I eat healthy crap (expensive) and order pizza a few times so it ends up costing.

Every week I spend around $12 on blueberries, $12 on lunch meat from the deli, $8 or 9 on a box of vector cereal, $6 on real OJ. Thats probably a third of my order right there :/ Health = costly.

I've had months where I've spent $60 on food, lately I've been spending more around $200 or so, I'm trying to eat healthier.

My lowest and highest are $66-458. All depends on how often you go out. Generally it's around $220.

safeway often has those big vector boxes on sale for $5.99....
just keep a heads-up and buy more than one once they're on sale
