About Fan Placement in PS

My current PS has a fan on the back end where you plug it in/switch it on/off. I've noticed a lot of PSs no longer have that or just have the fan on the top end of the PS. How does the air circulation work on those PS with only a fan on the top. Is it blowing directly into the top of the tower or does it take air in?

the fans that are on the inside of the case, pull in air from the case into the PSU.

Work better in what way? They have more potential to be quieter...although they aren't always. However, as far as performance goes, that statement would be false. If the components are chosen wisely, the heatsinks are designed well, and the fan controller is configured properly, the size of the fan and the placement of the fan, have no impact on performance.

The fan could be at a 30 degree angle in the psu and it wouldn't matter as long as the intake and exhaust were in the right places. Top/bottom and the way heat travels only applies when there are no fans. Add fans and the whole heat rises to the top is insignificant.
