About above Crucial advert: Where's my 15%?

Seems my math skills are worse than I thought! If I log on to the crucial site without clicking on the 15% advert, 256MB PC2100 is $75.59. That's just over $4 more than with their 15% link. That doesn't compute. If I take 15% off 75.59, I get over $11 off, taking it to just over $64.

$75.59 x .15 = $11.34, right? How do they figure 15% off is $4?

I emailed our site staff to check this out.

If you order online you get an automatic 10% off... make sure you aren't calculating the online price versus the normal price.

man thats a little misleading. It should really read an extra 5% off the web price for crucial ram. I had the same question the other day.

<< BTW, wrong forum. >>

How do you figure that? I mean, talking about a 'Hot Deal' IN the 'Hot Deal' thread seems about right?

Anyway, you're right....about the 10% thing.......

only deals are supposed to be posted on the hot deals forum. questions should be places in the "how do i?" thread tacked on the top of the forum.

and i think a better way to describe it would be "confusing", rather than misleading.

I'm planning on building a new rig... I'm almost set on AMD, which means DDR, so would it be a good idea to buy now while the prices are "low"? Wouldn't I probably go DDR even if I ended up P4? I've got the HDD, case (w/o PS), monitor, burner, and DVD, and am looking to spend another ~800 I think.

It would've been smarter to buy RAM 2 months ago when it was actually "low"... who knows what RAM's gonna do now, sure wish I could go back and take my own advice. 🙁

It would be a shock to see DDR more expensive than RDRAM, but it's getting there.

well, i got a 512MB DDR stick from them last week for $153. this week. $143. $10 cheaper.. hopefully this is a trend..

IMO the best place to discuss it would be the 15% Crucial thread, but it is locked...

so are they gonna do anything about it? Anandtech mods? It is really lame how many people are going to not order it online anyway. So the regular price is the 10% off. You should either get them to take another 10% off and word it accordingly or word it accordingly for how it is now. something like this

"an extra 5% off the web price for crucial ram"

<< I'd rather get the deal that it says that i'm getting not a measly 5% since the 10% off is the regular price. >>

5% more off. free shipping. best deal on ram around. quit yer bitching and deal with it. geez.

dew.

It may be misleading, but the 15% discount is clearly shown when you look at the item. If you feel strongly about it, just go to Crucial.com directly and bypass it. Go through ebates and get 4% (or whatever it is this week) instead. Of course, there are ways to get both, but I won't bother you with that information.

I agree it is very misleading. I bought some through the link and thought zI got 15% off of what anyone else would get....

I feel viloated now that I know it was only 5% :disgust:

"violated"?

Bump, I had another thread on this goin but they have lock it 🙁
I think you have a legit complain, at least for DDR memory....

It's actually

5.555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555556 %

off the normal 10% discounted price 😉

not really. Mushkin has 512MB of PC2100 for $122, and "'special" version with cas2 latency for $149. $6 Shipping. Both beat Crucial pricewise, and it's better ram.
