The father (i.e. sperm donor) should NEVER have the ability to forcibly prevent the mother from getting an abortion if she wants one.

Ideally and ethically the father should have a say in the abortion. But realistically and practically prevent that. Afterall, it is the mother who has to carry the baby to term and deliver which I feel overrides the rights of the father. It is an unfortunate situation when this happens, but since the mother has to do all the work at this point, I can understand why the father does not have a say.

It is just a bad situation all around, but I just can't see requiring a mother being required by law, against her wishes, to carry to full term. There just isn't a fair and equitable solution, so the mother ultimately gets to choose.

I think both should have a vote. I'm not against abortion, but if one of the parents actually wants the child, the chances are they'll be a good parent. It's the unwanted children who are dragging us down. Abort the unwanted children, keep the rest, and the world will be a better place.

Are you trying to compare care by a parent to intensive care in an incubator and living off a feeding tube and respirator?

What side of the debate did you end up on with Terri Schiavo?

Wow. All I did was acknowledge that the other position exists, which you seem incapable of. I did not imply that I take that position. So, to acknowledge the true position of the opposition is giving up ground in your own argument? That's sad.

Could you please explain how, other than carrying the child for 9 months, I do not have equal responsibilities for both of my daughters? One is in school and the other is about to start but since my wife stays at home I have the responsibility of providing for them and being their father but my wife still has more "further responsibilities" concerning our children than I do?

Please do elaborate.

You're married, so you completely ignored the very first part of my point (which you failed to quote here), so I'm not going to respond to this question as it obviously does not apply.

nice try, though.

EDIT: sorry, you're responding to my HAL response here. My very first post in this thread mentioned "unless married," etc.

I think there is a very real difference depending on the situation.

I counter your drivel with the fact that it can after a certain point where it is still legal to kill it.

THAT'S THE ARGUMENT. The point is too vague to define specifically and "at birth" is a controversially late and arbitrary distinction unrelated to the life being protected.

Also, it can't survive outside the body without a caretaker well after it becomes a protected and born life.

Your position is so blatantly fixed and inarguable to you because you have blinders on.

well, technically, it can, potentially, survive with NICU "unnatural" medical care.

In this case, science has ways of creating humans where they would never have existed before.

Of course, the people that make these arguments, using the advances of science and medicine as support, will likewise ignore and discredit science and medicine when they want to insert their own definition of life into similar arguments.

how convenient.

You seem to think that any baby born before exactly nine months needs NICU... and any baby born later gains protected status before birth?

What I mean about birth being an arbitrary distinction in relation to a viable life is exactly that: arbitrary. It is not a distinct moment when it becomes reasonably viable without NICU and, even then, should NICU dictate when it's OK or not or something relevant earlier in the development cycle? Too much ambiguity/vagueness.

Then masturbation is murder as well

Child : "Daddy, daddy, when i'm older i want to be shot into space...

Father : "If I wasn't so drunk when I met your mother you would have been"

Anyway, as the average ejaculation has millions of sperm in it surely you could argue that unless intercourse ended up with the woman giving birth to several million babies then sex is also murder :p

The only time the male opinion matters, is if he is going to compensate the female for 9+ months of pain, clothing, nausea, lost wages, etc... and then take 100% emotional and financial responsibility for LIFE of the child.

if not... then the only opinion that matters is the female. she has to carry the child to term, then raise it.
