Not really. Buy an Asus and get over it.

No thanks rather give my money to other brands that are just as good or even better then Asus(overated) IMHO ;).

Yes it`s bad news for Abit fans that like their nForce boards ,sounds like there`s more to this then meets the eye,at least there are other brands to choose from.

Does this mean no more BIOS udpates for Abit's nForce boards?

You should still get BIOS & driver updates, just no more new nForce models from Abit.

Yay! Bring on the puke colored, horribly laid out motherboards that scream OEM.

Hmmm....If I recall, we we talking about Nvidia based motherboards. However, the fact that Asus has finally realized there are PCB colors other than puke-like is a good thing. :p :)

Now, as for the layout of the K8V, it is ok...but still sorely lacking IMO. First, I like the ATX connector to be over near the boards MOSFET's and other power supply components. Second, they don't have the IDE ports parallel to the board (other than the floppy), like on some Abit boards, and have a lone IDE connector in the liddle of the board.

I do like that they have the 4pin ATX connector up near the edge of the board though. Maybe there is hope for Asus yet...if only they had better support and bioses...

Well...if you are basing it on performance, features, overclocking, support, and excellent bioses...you have the wrong motherboard.

:p

Edit:

And before you try to use my words against me chief, you might want to check the post you quoted...I said...let me repeat it for you...I know you have diffculty with complex thought...

Yay! Bring on the puke colored, horribly laid out motherboards that scream OEM.

Now, I know this is hard, but I bolded it for you to make it easier for you to concentrate. Did I mention only their PCB color as a reason?

Please, oh elightened one, please tell us "morons" what is so outstanding about them? Poor layout, cheaper board components used, doing things like limiting the capabilities of onboard RAID chips with "Lite" bioses, poor customer support, etc..etc..etc..

Another prime example who just buys into all the hype surrounding the Asus name. Move along...nothing to see here. :p

I really wanted to buy the Abit Max 3 but the layout turned me away...

I do not dislike Abit or Asus, both are great IMO

Actually...Asus does make decent boards, and they seem to do the best with their intel based boards, but their layout and OEM features usually turn me off. And the PCB color matters to me because I have windowed cases.

As an enthusiast, I prefer brands like Abit and Epox that cater to the enthusiast.

IMO.

There are three DIMM slots as you can see ? but they have a couple minor problems. First, when using that Zalman heatsink I mentioned above, the copper fins were actually coming in contact with the heat spreaders on the memory in the DIMM slot 1 during installation and removal of the memory. After they were installed, however, there was no contact, but the gap between them was small enough to cause concern if there are any changes in the Zalman heatsink specs. Oh, and don?t even think about using the Corsair Pro series memory with that combination ? it will not fit at all. Also, another problem is one we saw rampant with the KT600 motherboards from the Athlon XP platform ? interference with the AGP card when it is installed. In short, you can not install or remove memory safely with the AGP card installed; you?ll have to remove it first.

The OTES system is of course the major cause for the crowded feeling on the motherboard, and that did cut down on the space available to the processor heatsink, which could be a slight drawback.

Below the OTES cooling system, we have the ATX power connector and the 4-pin ATX12V connector both nearly touch and both nearly impossible to install or remove. After I had the motherboard on our test bed with the graphics card and heatsink installed, I actually couldn?t find the ATX12V connector for some time. I don?t consider myself to have large fingers, but taking the power connectors off of the motherboard was a considerable pain as the locking clips were in tight positions.

And I do like the layout of my Asus K8V. I had/having no problems what so ever!

Maybe we'll see some Abit SiS mobos. Having more than ECS and Gigabyte (well, and Asrock, if any of those can ever even match the reference boards for speed) will be good, and Abit oculd probably make and sell some extremely nice ones.

Hopefully that will stop them from putting that stupid gap between the AGP and first PCI slot...
