I thought this was a pretty good price for a 4400, considering its a Abit, and that people are paying nearly the same for a 4200 board. I've also purchased from this vendor 5-6 times, and never had a problem.

Ah, but they're paying nearly the same for a 4200 board with VIVO. This board only appears to have the VO part.

Just wth is "Ah, but they're paying nearly the same for a 4200 board with VIVO. This board only appears to have the VO part. " supposed to mean? Let's see....this is clocked faster, but lacks video in. Okay, you're point is what? If that's the case, I can state that if you really look, for nearly the same price you can get a 8500AIW 64MB card.....what's the point?

This is still a good deal right now.....BTW - same price before shipping at Newegg......

The point is, hey're paying near-4400 prices for a 4200 unit that has video-in and video-out, whereas the 4400 part is video-out only. And yes, you can get your 8500AIW card, but it'd be only 64MB, and you'd have tons of driver issues to deal with. Trust me, BTDT.

the point is it depends why you are buying the card in the first place...
dont buy this if you want VIVO, but it is a good price for the Abit board right now and they have a good rating at RR...
nice :)

is it true that the 64mb version of the ti4200 does in fact outperfom the 128mb version? if so, why wouldn't i save myself the $30???

actually, the 64 mb version has faster RAM so it's faster at lower resolutions. however, going up to insane resolutions like 1600x1200, the 128mb performs better. but there's an easy solution. overclock.

Currently the 64MB Ti4200 can outperform the 128Mb version in a lot of today's games. This is because the 64MB ram is clocked higher than the 128MB ram. However, if you over clock the 128Mb version, the gap dissappears. Also in future games, the 128MB ram will be of more use since newer games are going to require more ram to run all the pretty textures and what not. So the 128MB version is probably a better buy in the long run.

for a budget minded student who will be forced out of gaming (don't ask) in about 1.5 years and plays games at 1024x768 max, will the ti4200 64mb last me that long with the slew of new power-hungry games coming out, or should i just invest another $60 and get the ti4400 128mb?

thanks for the advice...

sorry for the bother but i forgot to ask in the last thread: what is the difference between the brands of ti4200/4400's - pny, abit, xtasy? are they more or less the same?

thanks
