abit p965 board $79.40 shipped AR

As much as I like abit and its a good price on a 965 chipset; I just think those reviews are enough to scare ppl away from this board. But it's tempting indeed.

The reviews are due to stupid people that didn't read the manual. You can't install Windows on an IDE drive without using a driver disk. Simple enough.

Well that I kind of figured. But then what about the reboot issue?

WOW...I'm a stupid person then...I have not used this board...but usually don't you only need a driver disk for sata?

And I think it's a huge hassle to even need a driver disk for sata drive OS installs...I mean why not make it require a 5.25 drive to install a OS on a new technology...

I love the mobo's that emulate the sata as a IDE...and they are much easier to use...and geez, it sucks to have to find a floppy drive...if it wern't for the issue at hand, I would even own a floppy drive... 🙁

ELopes580 - The "reboot issue" was common to several P965 boards but still happens with the IB9. When you boot the system, it fires up, quickly turns off, then fires up again. It's all automatic and happens within about 2 seconds. I don't understand why people freak out about it so much.

superHARD - The P965 can't control an IDE drive without drivers. You can install on SATA without a driver disk. That's a P965 limitation, not a limitation of this specific motherboard. Intel made a choice to phase out IDE. When you install Windows, you just use a floppy disk with the IDE drivers. If you don't, you WILL get blue screen crashes every time. Asus even includes a little IDE-to-SATA adaptor in the box with the motherboard. Like i said, people are too stupid to read the book. Two ways to solve the Intel-caused issue yet people still can't figure it out.

Reboot bug exists on P5B Deluxe, only when changing something critical in the BIOS.

i.e.

1. Change critical setting (multi, FSB, memory timing)
2. Save and Exit
3. System powers off
4. System powers on (2-3sec)
5. System powers off
6. System powers on and doesn't stop

It doesn't happen when I reboot or cold boot, just during critical BIOS changes
