If you have an NV7m and dial up, what modem are you using?
I built a computer for someone with these parts:
Abit NV7m
Athlon XP 2000+
Mushkin 512mb PC2100 DDR
Seagate Barracuda IV 40gb ATA100 hd
Plextor 40/12/40 CD-RW
Iomega 100mb ZIP drive (from their old computer)
Floppy drive
2 USB ports in front of case
350 watt AMD approved power supply
Windows XP Pro
It worked perfectly at my house on my network. They put a US Robotics 56k modem in it, and the modem won't get any dial tone -- I've tried all kinds of settings. I took the modem out and put it in one of my computers and plugged it into the EXACT SAME cord on the SAME phone outlet at their house...it worked flawlessly.
I hear the modem make a click noise once like it's about to wait for the dial tone, but then nothing happens and it reports no dial tone. I tried forcing it to not wait for dial tone, and then it dialed, but then nothing happened. I tried again while listening to the line with a phone...the modem dialed but all I heard on the phone was a dial tone.
Has anyone had any trouble like this? If so, do you have any solutions?
