Abit NV7133-RAID (nForce 415-D) Pops Up On Pricewatch for $130.

The lack of nForce audio is dissapointing to say the least, however I wouldn't count out a board like this with nForce audio for the same price very soon, since initially the ASUS A7N266-C boards (nForce 415-D) didn't have nForce audio, but a few days later they did have audio and they were priced the same as the ones without audio.

IMO, $130 is a great deal for everything that you get.

If anyone is interested, MSI's nForce 415-D board is available at newegg for $109. ASUS's A7N266-C is also available for $110 at Newegg.
 
Well, that's kind of wrong--at least according to the official
Abit specs.

- the audio is via the nVidia MCP-D
- it's SoftMenu II, not III
- and the only Realtek device is the LAN

you'll notice it also says realtek 960 something under audio there

i looked on realtek's site and it's some sort of ac97 codec? (shudder) i really don't trust realtek components
 
I started another thread about the NV7-133R's Sound.

I'm really interested in understanding how this works - we need to get someone who has the MB.

The Realtek audio CODEC chip "REI" is refering to is the ALC650 chip. It is like the common AC'97 chip (but better).

I am not sure, but I think that this chip is only being used for the 6 channel sound and as a method of getting the audio in and out of the MCP-D processor (digital/analog converters). This is only a guess. We want it to use the excellent quality nForce audio.

Any info anybody out there can add would be very helpful.
 
Oh, I missed that. I see it now.

I wonder if this means I will have to get the MSI K7N415, which is for sale...but not on the MSI
site yet, so no detailed specs.

We are all holding our breath.

When you get it, I would greatly appreciate a description of not only how it sounds, but how it works.

1) What drivers does it use? (nForce or Realtek)
2) How does it show up in the mixer (Audio Control) section of Windows?
3) What physical ins and outs does it have (center channel, subwoofer?)?
4) How does the 6 channel sound work (with DVDs, MP3s, etc.)?
5) How does the AC3 encoding work?
6) Can you tell if the SPDIF goes to the Realtek chip or the nForce?

I know that is a lot, but as much info you could give (of course anything else notable) would be a great help to all interested.

The more I look at this thing, it seems to me that it uses the nForce audio for standard 2 channel (stereo) sound and the realtek for the 6 channel sound. The Abit-USA site says that it supports AC3 encoding - the nForce is the only chip that can do that. The realtek certainly can't.

Also, if anybody can find the manual, provide a link.

I'm a bit confused regarding the number of USB ports... I see that it has 2 ver1.1, but just how many ver2.0? Can anyone confirm.

It says nvidia MCP-D >>

Notice that Abit's NV7133-RAID Web Page is identical to what mwave lists as the NV7133-R's specs. That means that this board might not have the nForce sound.

However, like it turned out with ASUS's 415-D board (with the MCP-D boards finally arriving in retail channels), so I believe it will be with this ABit board.
 
Board isnt here yet, but one thing I just realized on this board that really pisses me off is the 12v power connector(like the p4 has). I hope thats there for extra juice when overclocking & the board will wok without it connected, because my Sparkle PS doesnt have the 12v plug & I really dont want to go out & spend another $75 for a PS.

From what I understand, it is just like the P4 12V plug -

I am pretty sure that it is just extra juice dedicated to the CPU, but you don't have to use it if your ps doesn't support it.

I wouldn't worry about it too much; it is is just that these modern processors crave a ridiculous amount of power.

Without going back and looking at the info I found, I can't be sure, but I think that there are two USB 2 headers comming from the VIA USB 2 chip.

There might be two ports that they connect to on the extra panel with the SPDIF (I think I saw a picture of that).
 
You can get the 12 V converter from PCpower and cooling for $8. (might be cheaper somewhere else..) I had ordered that plug and some thumbscrews from them for $10 shipped.( They have miniumu order $10)
 
Ok, got it up and running. I decided to hold off on the onboard audio because the current XP drivers dont have bass & treble adjustments(may be trivial to some, but it drives me nuts). Im not getting the ref. memory scores of the 420 board on scisoft sandra-in fact im not even getting close. I am aware of the double sided DDR issue & am trying to figure out what 2 of the 3 dimm slots to use(I have 2 256mb double sided Crucial pc2100 DDR ram). Not much in the overclocking dept. compared to previous abit boards. Also not much in the memory tweaking dept. (you get 2 options: 1. Agressive/optimal memory timings & 2: cas timing)-thats it for memory tweaks. Its running fine without the 12v plug attached-havent really stressed it yet. I couldnt get USB 2.0 to work so I gave up on it as well. This board is definitely a new product & Im sure more info on it will be available after more people get thier hands on one. Thats it for now. Ill post more later
