I'm really overly tired of via's drivers, I've had too many problems with them screwing up settings, like confusing a normal dvd-rom with a scsi cd-rom, and the last motherboard I had (epox 8kha+) was extremely screwy.

to that end I decided I wanted an nforce motherboard, and from what I've heard asus is about as stable as it gets, I don't mind spending a few extra dollars on it, just as long as the damn thing works. you know?

so, I was wondering what everyone thinks or if anyone currently has one or the other, and how much they like it, *any* response is appreciated, thanks. =)

I get one mobo Asus A7n266-c :
- Sound is great, it's like a real good sound card.
- Very good stability
- Great overclocking possibiltys
- Very good performance
But careful with your DDR choice. Prefer a good trade like Mushkin, crucial, micron, corsair...and 2x 256 is better than 1x512 cause u can use twinbanks that increase memory performance (+25% and more).
Some seems to have problems with sound card. Sound on only 2.1 and not 5.1, but no pb for me.
I use Xp and the shut down is very long, maybe i am the only one ?? dunno.
And the mobo will support the future AMD 166 Mhz it's official.
In conclusion, I think its one of the best choice for the moment. Dunno well abit but it seems to have more pbs than asus specially with the sound and the bios is using softmenu II.

Did you have the DVD connected on a RAID channel (Eg😛romise controller)? If so, It is normal for drives (DVD,CD,ZIP) to be seen as SCSI drives..

Trajan,

Long shutdown time for XP is normal as well, albeit anoying.

sorry dude. Yes long is normal but it's very very long 4 or 5 minutes sometimes more. I have another computer with Xp and its ok. Shut down in 20 seconds.

Yeah, I would say that is quite a bit out of hand..I figured you were comparing a "normal" XP shutdown(20~ish seconds) as opposed to a "normal" win98/ME shutdown(5~ish sec.). Do you have a really long startup as well?

If you are going to overclock, i recommend you not get a nForce board. They have a lot of issues right now. I currently have a A7N266-C and it's weird. I'm going to get the abit version and the MSI versions to see how they all compare.

Byte, nice if u compare the 3 mobo. I will follow this test.
GonzoDaGr8, yes it's very long so long in fact, i choose to wait and buy this mobo later (with lan on bord probably)... i am looking for the perfect mobo and it's almost done !

Hey Byte! I'm really interested in the a7n266-c. What kind of trouble you have with it? Just unstable at higher speeds? cas2? What kind of ram you use in it?

Also, does anyone know if this m/b can take pc 2700? OCZ is dirt cheap, ya know.

Thanks for any clues!😉

I have the nv7-133r and am very happy with it. Byte is right, if your looking for an overclocking board, dont look at an nforce mobo. Yes, my nv7-133r has some overclocking options, but nothing to what you can get on a via mobo. I picked the nv7-133r because it had onboard raid-it was the only nforce board I could find with raid.
