ABIT NV7-133R (nVidia 415) motherboard review

He's comparing an Abit 415 board with an MSI 420 board (which is known not to be particularly fast). An Asus 420 board would be more representative of optimized 420 peformance (or even Abit's own micro-atx mobo based on the 420).

Geez, aren't we picky. Be glad that you have a review AT ALL!!

Did you ever think that maybe he doesn't happen have all four nForce boards lying around under his bed???

That would defeat the purpose of the NForce. Nvidia designed it to be an all-in-one board.

In the UK, all 3 of the Asus nForce boards just dropped in price, with the 415 version dropping around £15....the 415D equipped A7N266-C ( it is label 'with audio'..which i presume means it ships with the riser card, since the -C is Dolby Digital certified and thus shouldnt have the C-media chip onboard...) can now (ok, its on 1-2days 😛) be had for £108, whreas it was £123 a few days ago.

The plain jane A7N with the C-media sound is £146, and then -E version is now £166.

Speaking of all-in-one solutions, all of the nForce nuts will be singing a different tune VERY shortly😛

Damn you and all your hinted remarks. Either say it outloud or don't say anything at all and mess with our minds. But you like that, don't you?! You are a sadist, I tell you!!! :| 😉

I have the right to be picky, its called freedomof expression😉 Yeah it was a review, if only I could decipher the English....
If I sound cranky, please excuse me🙂

I would like to go in the other direction where you didn't have ANYTHING on the mainboard except the CPU, memory and cache. Serial, parallel, floppy, and disk controllers were all EXTRA! I don't use serial or parallel ports on most of the workstations. Some workstations don't even have hard drives! All that useless stuff just sitting there. :Q

Most systems where everything is built in are low end junk like comprapes and sleazemachines! 😛

Cheers!

Awesome, this board is fast and feature filled, with good overclocking options. As usual, the performance is negligible, and 415-D might even be slightly faster, albeit just ~3% or so.

Anyone see a price?

So which one do you think will write the drivers?

i dont' know why everyone's eatin this stuff up...this nfarce stuff that is.

u can get a comparably performing SIS 650/740 chipset board for half the price...

but whoa! - hold on a sec...

that's only when comparing the 420 to the aforementioned SIS boards....this is the 415...no integrated video and 5.1 audio....so what...the only reason to buy this board is if you want the absolute fastest...which isn't uncommon - but at a price premium i wouldn't be willing to pay in my current position.

the thing i CAN'T STAND, is when manufacturers come out w/ full size ATX nfarce boards...seems retarded if you ask me - these things are intended to be mATX factor enclosed in flex/mATX housing...ah well.

No you can't. The only SiS 740 board in the U.S. is an inferior PC Chips based board, with inferior audio and video. There's one nForce 420 mATX board, and it's made by a superior mainboard maker (Abit) and the audio/video is way ahead of the SiS 740 (the video because of dual channel tech). And it's not "half the price either", an ABit nForce 420 board is $130 on pricewatch while the PC Chips SiS 740 is $86 on pricewatch.

The SiS 650 is obviously irrelevant since it requires a completely different processor and socket.

I dont think its stupid for mobo manufacturers to be bringing out ful size nForce baords...the nForce is a very good standalone chipset, whether its roots were in integrated vid/lsound/lan or not....and the 415D does have nForce audio nexteroid, its up to the menufacturer to ship the riser with it, which in the UK they always have...i can get the nForce 415D equipped Asus A7n266-C board for £108, which with good overclocking potential, locked 33MHz PCI bus, and NForce audio (ill be needing a 2nd soundcard when i buy...so this is both as good, and saves any compatablity fuss over, an Audigy) thats a steal for me.....and as a bonus, i dont need to have Via in my machine - Go nVidia !!! 🙂

hehe

As the owner of an MSI k7t266a mobo I can second that motion. I am looking forward to this mobo being in my machine. It has been over 5 months and the MSI still wont run for over a month without causing corrupt data errors. The added advantage is that this abit board uses the Highpoint Raid controller. Everything I have read agrees that the Highpoint is far superior to the Promise Raid controller. I can't wait til it gets here!!!

hehehe AGodspeed said abit was superior LOL! 😛

and last i saw everyone was saying the promise is better than the highpoint. of course, its been a while. and its crappy IDE RAID anyway. theres a few sorts and this one is the 2nd crappiest. first crappiest is getting 3 drives and raiding the 2 you're not booting via windows.
