ABIT NF8 Series...........

Hello all

I'm by no means an expert in any way shape or form, but I had a serious issue ( so I thought ) with the new Abit NF8 Series and my AMD 64 3000.

Basically the computer just wouldn't read any cd's and it was stuck in a loop between the cd rom and my dvd burner. The computer wouldn't reboot, had to constantly do a cold boot.

I change the ram, changed the IDE cables, changed the cd rom, changed the dvd burner, ran just one thing at a time trying to find the issue. Updated the BIOS... and all drivers... etc...

Finally brought it in the store where I bought all the components. THey couldn't get it going either!!!!!

Originally, I had the DFI Lan Party board in there and it was doing the same thing.

To make a long story short: YOU MUST INSTALL SP2 to make either of these boards run properly. Now I ask you? WHAT THE HELL KIND OF BS IS THAT???????????

I have problems with my ISP with SP2, so now what am I supposed to do? Go back on slow dial up?

Does anyone know why we have to install SP2 in the first place?

did not notice u mention in changing power supply, tried changing that already? mmm...I'm currently using the NF8 with latest BIOS version flashed (get it from www.abit.com.tw), not sure if that helps, and latest nforce drivers ver5.10(from www.nvidia.com) . Try these n see...btw, sorry I don't have a dvd-burner, so maybe i don have the issue, but i have dvd-rom and cd-burner, i have not encounter the issue u mentioned...Gd LUck

I meant the nVidia unified platform drivers. It's not uncommon for them to have issues with optical drives, so a different version might work with Windows XP SP1. Btw, have you contacted your ISP about working with XP SP2?

when u are installing the nforce platform driver, DO NOT install nVidia's IDE driver. Try it out and see what happen.
