Building a comp w/ Abit NF7-S, XP-2400, and 512 MB DDR 3200.

I put it together and booted. POST came up with error about CPU and said to access the SOFT Setup Menu. I clocked the external bus up and then booted. I recieved a red error about system. Then turned off, cleared CMOS and booted but recieved no display. Did I break anything? When you clear the CMOS you connect two pins with a jumper. Do you need to turn it on to clear or just connect them?

Any Help would be recieved gratefully

thanks for the clarification but unfortunately I still have no display. What is most likely the problem? Do I need a floppy with the CMOS on it? Is the CMOS still alright? Could i have fried the CPu?

you might have.
do you have another CPU or board that you could do some quick trouble guessing?

I think the biggest problem with that motherboard is having a quality power supply, like Enermax. From what I have read and from experience.

I have a test bed and I stuck the CPU in. It still seems to be working. Could I have destroyed the Mobo?

Pull ur vd card out of the nf7 (then try to boot) and see if you get the proper error codes. I suspect bad mobo if you don't get beep code. Might try same excersise with ram and cpu too

link to beep codes

BTW, the nf7 manual says you have to turn off power before clearing cmos, including the +5 standby power or you might dork the mobo. That means unplugg or turn off at the rocker switch on back of psu. Hope you did that?

Don't wanna start an arguement, but havent seen it recommended to turn on pc with cmos jumper in cleared postion. Just change jumper for a few seconds with mobo power shut off (as described above)

BTW, what vid card?. If it needs the 4pin connector, was it installed? Installed second I2 volt atx connector too?

Good Luck with it.
