Hello,

My friend and I just installed an Abit NF7-S w/ a barton 2500. There is a red light on the motherboard and I was just wondering if this was normal to be on while the board is getting power or if it means there is some kind of trouble. Thanks!

It's probably for power. My Asus A7N8X Deluxe has a green one for the same purpose.

Yeah,

I checked the manual front to back, that's why I wanted to check if anyone knew, thanks for the replies!

Unfortunately, and contrary to popular belief, a RED light on Abit boards does NOT simply mean that the power is on. This is taken from the Abit website:

Question:After I installed my motherboard I noticed a red light on my motherboard, what does this mean?
Answer: The red light on the motherboard is ABIT's patented RSD technology (Random Self Destruct). While increasing the stability of any overclocked settings, and memory subsystem performance, this does have a chance of rendering your system unstable or possibly even unbootable due to a localized explosion near the CPU mounting area. We recommend that this feature be used only for those who wish to have the highest performance from the ABIT motherboard. To toggle this feature, please consult the documentation that was packaged with your ABIT motherboard.

So I'd uh, yeah, turn it off, or something.

EDIT: This is obviously a joke.

The red light means the power to the mobo is on. Notice if you turn of the switch on the back of the power supply that it goes off. My Nf7S has a green light too which I believe is the LAN indicator.
I have a clear sided case and the red light was blinding to me- can believe such a small light can be so bright! I put a little piece of electrical tape over it.

Not a dumb question. When I got my NF7-S last month that little light drove me crazy. There isn't anything in the manual at all. I also checked front-to-back in the manual several times- ZIP
