it looks like the VALUE version of KT7A, first, it only has SoftMenu II, second it DOES NOT support new 266mhz bus.

WHAA?!

Phew, I was starting to think that my KT7A-RAID was obsolete before I got it.

Here's an interesting tidbit from VIA Hardware,

"KT133E chipset explained
Many thanks to our source close to VIA for explaining just what the KT133E chipset is. Apparently, it is a KT133 (non-A) with support for AMD's PowerNow! technology, which is able to actively adjust the voltage and multiplier of Palomino and Morgan mobile CPU's."

Hehe, looks like it's only a KT133 after all.

<< I guess the KT133A chipset was just Beta testing for the KT133E >>

?? Hello?? do you know how to read?
It's a VALUE version!.. cuz' it doesn't support 266mhz bus! That's a pretty obvious evidence.

see, there, KT133E in my opinion, is the NEW VALUE chipset for VIA to prepare for the NEW core CPU from AMD.

I just had a horrible thought.

Does this mean my KT133 will not be able to run the Morgan cpus? :(

Morgan are gonna replace the Duron core in the future & run on 200mhz.

I was hoping to just put a Morgan in my KT133 & OC it 1200+ . :(

um.. good thought!...
I don't know, you might have to ask VIA about that or AMD...
But from what we've seen here (post above), it indicated that it supports the POWER NOW! Which is primarily designed for Laptop, for saving batter life purpose, therefore, I believe your KT133 will still be able to support Morgan, just not PowerNow though... which doesn't really matter to us, the desktop users.

The question is, why release another "value" chpiset when there is already the KM133 and the "older" KT133. The logic escapes me as of this time. Unless, of course, the latter two cannot support the Palomino or Morgan.

Erm, from the looks of things, all these features for a laptop? I don't think so.

but it doesn't mean it CANNOT be implement into laptop, the specs you showed above are the ones that support for the desktop, the chip itself might able to support other features that just not listed.

You have a point, however, the question I raised is geared for desktops. So why introduce another "value" chipset when there's basically two others that can handle the job(i.e. KT133 and KM133).

Does Abit even make Boards for laptops?

I dont think they do.

So it must be a PC board.

I am not so sure, but I heard this KT133E is more compatible with 686B SouthBridge than KT133, so, that's probably why.

It Makes perfect sence to me..... If they Release the chipset Early, even Before the chips are available than that would give via & in this case abit a time period to be able to perfect them before they have to shove one in a laptop... This Looks like a very good thing to me. I Want a laptop & I Realy dont care for intel, so if they are using a laptop chipset in a desktop now the rollover to laptop should be seemless.....
