it supports all of the current athlon/duron cpu's and it should support the future ones, including the yet to be released throughbred

from what ive read the t-bred is compatable

but the hammer (the next one after the t-bred) since it has a totally dif architecture with northbridge functions on the chip itself will require a new motherboard

Will all the 266A motherboards such as the Epox 8KHA+ support the thoroughbred? Thanks.

until they actually come out we wont know for sure, but... suposedly all the current socketA boards will support up to t-bred (well all current socketA boards with 133mhz fsb)

it will probably just be a matter of updating the bios on your board when the new cpu's come out

AMD is sticking with socket A through Barton. Barton is the core after Throughbred that will be
produced on SOI. AMD is committed on keeping the Athlon on Socket A through 2003. However,
Boonesmi is correct, the Hammer will be based on entirely new architecture and definetly
require new sockets/motherboards/etc.

Actually, what you'll need to do is look underneath your ISA slot, and there should be a little sticker tell what revision it is... according to abit, if it's version 1.3 and you get the newest bios, it'll work with the XPs. If it's older, however, even with the new bios it won't work:( That makes me sad as I have a 1.0 and I wanted an XP

I have a version 1.0 also. It appears the fastest processor I can run is a T-Bird 1.4GHz(133)CPU.

Here's a reference for BIOS versions:

Abit KT7A-RAID

I would like to use an Athlon XP but that does not appear possible. Has anyone tried an XP in the older version of the board?

Ok
XP's will work fine but you may have to press the restart button when cold-booting you computer for a couple of
times from time to time.. there is a major hardware glitch in regards to the boot up timing, which is impossible
to fix for Abit via the BIOS update... so officially Abit claims that KT7A rev 1.0 to 1.2 will not support XP's, hovewer in 99%of the cases
the average user will not have any problems. New BIOS shows the correct XP markings/microcode...
