I have Abit KT7A Raid installed with win2k. It seems really slow when I run applications on Win2k. Very slow. But when I do benchmark its result is ok. Does anyone have suggestion on win2k? I believe I have all the new drivers for it. But when I reinstall Win ME.. it is very fast. It's weird to me. Anyone???

I would bet money it is the ide drivers. I have the same setup, and when i used the via bus master drivers for the controller and drivers, i was getting something like 3300 in sandra. I reinstalled later, and left the w2k detected drivers there, and magically i was getting closer to 11000 and the machine felt 10 times faster.

Make sure you have DMA enabled under your Primary and Secondary IDE channels in the Device Manager. If not, select DMA and reboot. If it still is a no go, then try installing the 4.27 or 4.28 IDE BusMaster drivers (it works for some, doesn't for others) from viahardware.com

Use the default Win2K BM drivers for sure. The VIA 4.25-current are slower than the default MS drivers.

KT7 FAQ
Try here - Some great information on drives, memory, etc.

I had the same problem under Windows 2000 - 3300 on Sandra.
With the VIA drivers 11,000. Under windows 98 this DiamondMax45+ is 22,000 and my IBM GXP75 is 23,000. There is a way to get close to these scores in Windows 2000 but you need to make sure your harddrive controllers aren't sharing IRQs with anything. You will have to not use the ACPI mode. Read the fAQs and you will know how to fix things.

Thanks for all your comments.
Now my system is much faster than before now.
I found out indeed is the IDE problem. With Default Win2k drive, my Drive Index is at 11301
After install 4 in 1 4.28, Drive Index is at 1700, 10times faster.
The peformance is not only show up in benchmark, indeed it runs noticablly faster.
However, It is still below UMA66's performance which is index at 13000 in Sandra under win2k, hopefully, MS or VIA can solve this soon.

You are certain that the Via BM drivers(4.28) are faster than the default Win2K drivers

Your comments where nebulous, plz clarify.

Thanks

yeah. I did the benchmark and run photoshop to see which one is faster. Certainly from the benchmark, 4.28 is faster, and photoshop when I run it, it is faster too.
