Abit Kt7 RAID Question

DO NOT GET A KT7-RAID. The highpoint controller is what really screws over this awesome board. I have had so much trouble with the highpoint controller trying to get it to be stable both raid and non-raid and itjust wasnt stable. So now i use regular ide 1 and 2.


I wish i would have went the bx/p4 route. o well. i cant win

Well Stormblade, i did reply to your private message, try searching for my reply under P.

If you want RAID 5 then you have to have 3 disks. But i still say that ONE single SCSI drive from Seagate would be a better alternative than 3 IDE drives.

And you would fit the P4 on the BX in what way, with a hammer??????

Ouch. Just did a quick spot price check. The SCSI solution will run me about $1,200. Hmm. Damn. Actually, not too far from the IDE solution price except that I get way more disk space for that money. *sigh* Well damn. Guess I'll just save a bit more than the $3,000 I was planning on then. I only have $1,200 right now. Question is, will I be able to save and wait until next year to buy my system.

The last Abit board I had was the BH6 and It wasnt that great. I have had MSI and Soyo boards since then and the soyo been the best board out of all of them. I just ordered a KT7 And hope that its a STABLE board unlike the BH6.

Ok, PCResources, Bear with the slow and stupid. I re-read your post and I see you weren't saying go SCSI RAID instead of IDE RAID. You were just saying go SCSI. Now that I might be able to do. I can probably afford to purchase about 3 good sized SCSI. Top end. Hmm. Let me check that review. I'll bet they were comparing an IDE RAID solution against a non-RAID SCSI solution.

StormBlade: What are you doing to justify using SCSI? If its games / word processing, I would think to save your money.... (Ok ok, PcResources, we've settled this! Your a SCSI man, I'm an IDE man.. )

Justify? Justify? hahaha. That's funny. Um the answer would be nothing. What do I do to justify a 1.2 ghz machine? I'm running Dual PIII 500s. What justification did I have to get duals? I wasn't doing anything major as far as graphics goes.

Oh no, it's not about justification it's about who has the biggest toys. Although I do want speed as well.

Here's a question and I think it was answered for the IDE solution but with this SCSI RAID I'm getting is it possible to turn off the RAID support so that I can run with one HD until I get say two more and then turn on RAID-5 support?

No I don't NEED SCSI. But I wanna just to say I have it. Watch my co-workers eyes bulge. Watch the married guys quiver in envy cuz they have to ask the wife. Muhahahaa *cough*

Ok I'm back now....Anyone know when that DDR RAM is gonna be widely available and about how long after that we have to wait for good Motherboards?

Well, i'm not really a SCSI man, i have no problems with IDE except when it comes to IDE RAID. And for RAID 0, well, i don't care if it is SCSI, it is NOT worth the risk. If you want maximum performance, there is no alternative to SCSI though.

It's hard to say, we really do not know that much about the stability of the 760 chipset yet, i would wait at least a few months, check the forums and see what kind of problems anyone has or doesn't have with it. DDR SDRAM will be widely available well within that time.
