Abit KT7 o/c'ing woes

I just installed the board today since my A7V was RMA'ed. No matter what FSB I select I cannot boot to the OS...it simply hangs. If I leave it at default 100MHz it will go to the OS and is stable. Hell I can't even use 101MHz successfully. I am using the UL bios.

I have a TBird 750 @ 950 right now (9.5 x 100) and have tried using Mosel PC133 and Micron PC133 in bank 1, 2, and 3. In Softmenu III I set:

Fast Cpu Command : Fast
Enhance Chip : enabled
cpu drive: 2
Force 4-way interleaving : enabled
Enable Dram 4K-page mode : enabled
Dram clock : HCLK+PCICLK

WTF is going on?

It's probaly because you already have the processor going 200MHZ over what it's supposed to do. It probaly can't handle any extra load. Isn't 950 enough????

Sorry, forgot to add that even if I drop the mutiplier back to 7.5, 8, 8.5...it still doesnt allow me to raise the FSB.

**blurr, no it is not enuff.

Ugh, @ 1.85v and 3.5v on the chipset it wont do 10x100. I am hoping to get some feedback from users with a similar problem (if any exist).

well, not the same, but my duron 650+A7V doesnt like when i play with the fsb and the chips already over 800. Anything below 800 and itll run 105 stable "enough". Anything over 800 and it's not so pretty. Have you got any old cards in there? My old scsi card is the first thing to freak in my computer.

Same problem. Identical config. I can do 101 when I'm not at 950. I can also boot into windows stably @ 101, but I hang if I launch 3d app or RC5. 9.5x100 is 100% stable. I'll even post @ 11x100 but I can't do 9x102. I have no idea why either, but for me, 950 IS enough. I have a feeling it is the RAM. Try also taking off enhance chip, and fast cpu command and give it a go. See what happens. Those were giving my MX some hell so I disabled them.

Try reseting the BIOS by shorting the 2 pins mentioned in the manual (I think it mentions this in the part about forgotten passwords).

Isn't the KT7 suppose to be known for the stability and not made for it's overclocking ability. That is what I though I could be wrong.

Much like half the people on the forums, you are getting the K7T (the MSI board known for stability) mixed up with the KT7 (the Abit board known for easy OCing).

Thanks for all the feedback. The board is extremely stable, and the softmenu III is very nice. As far as the FSB dilemna goes, no luck on anything past 100MHz FSB, lol.

I dont know if this is possible but can you clock it under 100 mhz? If you can try it and see if it works. You might find some interesting results.

I have my TBird 750 @ 900 rock solid stable at 1.8v. It doesn't like FSB increases either and it won't do 950 or 1000. Looks like it depends on the chip. I'm happy at 900 myself.

I don't think it is the RAM. I have the same Mosel Vitelic PC133 running at 144MHz CAS2 Turbo. I run my 800 with the multiplier set at 900, the FSB at 109 (105/35 +4) I would have to point the finger at one of the cards.
