abit kt7 cpu temp thermistor question

Just installed my duron 600 in a abit kt7 and am currently in the pc health section of the bios. When i installed the cpu, i think i might have bent the cpu thermistor down a little bit too much. Should it be touching the bottom of the cpu? I know mine is not, how big of a difference does it make in temp reading? Currently the bios says duron 600 is at 37C with system temp at 28C.

I have a boxed duron and am using the boxed fan that was included.

I bent it down a little and i dont now think that it was touching the CPU when it was fully seated, 37c sounds about right, although my 900 is 33c with nothing running

It also depends on what Fan/Heatsink you are using. Don't get a Golden Orb. I just burned up my 1GHz using this POS. My 700 T-Bird ran fine at idle with the Golden Orb, ~37 deg C., however, when I played UT, it ran up to ~65 deg C. Buy a Fan/Heatsink which is AMD recommended.

my main concern is that i bent the thermistor down too much so its readings are off by a large number such as 10C. I did not bend it so it is touching the circuit board but is is not so high that it is touching the cpu either. Should i be concerned?

I bent my thermistor down just enought to get the cpu to go down. While I was pushing the cpu down I could feel the thermistor pushing back. I would say you can bend it back uyp until it touches when you push the CPU back in.

I also am using a Golden Orb for the socket 462. I had to remove 4 fins on the orb to get it to set on the CPU properly the fins were touching the compacitors next to the socket. My system runs stock because the CPU is locked and I run 98 F. idle and averages 110 F. while running demos.
