rather odd, i go thru the initial installation (the big ole blue dos remnant screen) hit f6 to load my hpt372 drivers, do so, then when it gets to Starting Windows... it either locks or gives me a Stop error, so i assume its the highpoint controller, get the newest drivers, update bios and hpt bios. same issues, so then decide to move the hard drive onto standard IDE line. and it just locks at Starting Windows.. next step, I figured Ok, maybe it hates XP, grab my Win2K cd, repeated same steps SAME PROBLEMS.. *Begins tearing hair out*
My system is bare at the moment
Enermax 435W supply
Abit KR7A-RAID
Athlon XP 1900+
512M Mushkin Ram
1 80gig Maxtor HD
GeForce2 vid card

anyone have ANY ideas?

p.s. as soon as it says Setup Is Starting Windows.. my numlock key goes off and the system is locked, so it is an actual system lock

you CAN AIM me if you know what the hell is going on

did you check if the ram is good/compatible with the mobo? I know mushkin is good quality but they might have an occasional bad module. Is it the cheap module or high performance one?

Sounds like the exact same problem I had trying to install XP while I was on an IWill KK266-R, though I was using a GeForce3. Turned out the IWill couldn't supply enough voltage to certain videocards causing the install to halt there, same issue caused the Gainward GF3 I had before the Asus to occasionally not initialize on bootup with the IWill. The odd thing is I haven't heard of any users having any similar trouble with the KR7A, and my install went with out a hitch on the KR7A. Anyway, give this a try and see if it solves it...Switch out the GF2 for an older videocard if you have one lying around, even a pci card if that's all you got. I had to grab an old Riva 128 to install XP to the IWill, after windows installs switch it out for your GF2.

i actually did get a bad module of ram, this is the second one, and it works ok...actually asked them if they had heard of problems and that was a no.

latest highpoint and bios are loaded

i think it is actually the highpoint drivers compatibility w/ xp because on the rare occasion it will load the next screen and see the drives, but then shortly after it freezes, so i am making SOME progress

and ybs, i did try another videocard, actually thought maybe it was the new cdrom and tried an old one, that wasnt it either, i am convinced its the highpoint, problem is if i disable the highpoint and try to put the drive on the regular ide, its still locking up, so i am still a tad lost

*shrug*
