Hey...

I just bought this motherboard from someone , who swares up and down that it worked fine...

No matter what I do when I power up the unit I get one long beep every 15 seconds, and nothing else.

I have AMD XP 1700 CPU

256 megs of DDR 266 PC2100 RAM from Compaq

Nvidia GeForce 3 Ti200 128meg Video Card


I have tried swapping out the AGP Video Card with a PCI video Card
Bought new memory
Cleared the CMOS
Removed the motherboard and placed it back in
Removed all of the connectors and Expansion Cards, except the Video and the LED headers
POwered down and up 6 times
removing and reseating CPU


The last thing I will try is installing an XP 2000 CPU which I am expecting in the mail today or tommorrow.

I have looked up the beep codes for the BIOS and one long beep means there is something wrong with the MB or there is something wrong with memory. Another site said that it could mean something is wrong with the Video card. But I have changed everything except the MB.

What would you say was wrong with this MB???

The power supply is the backbone of the system, what PSU are you using? I suggest trying another known good 300w or better with a minimum of 185w combined +3.3v&+5v output and if the PSU and new XP2000 don't get it runnin', I'd say it sounds like you've been trolled! At which point demand the seller except the return and refund your $$$! Post back with an update because I'd like to know how it turns out.

EDIT: Forgot to ask if you cleared the CMOS since that is always the first thing I always do when getting a used board and can save many headaches

Yep, I cleared the CMOS... I did that last night...
Power supply is a 400 watt Powermax PSU...
I had used another MB in the case before... A PIII 700 overclocked to 933...and it worked without a hitch.

Well if that XP doesn't get it runnin' I'd be pursuing a refund! It seems like the trolls always swear everything worked perfect when they had it and imply or flat out say it's something you did while honorable traders will assist as best they can in troubleshooting the problem and immediately make it clear that should the problem not be resolved they will provide a full refund. I hope this offer was made or that failing to resolve the problem the trader will do the right thing

did you plug a fan in the cpu fan header? the kr7a-raid I had would shut down if it didn't detect a fan plugged in that particular socket...

hmmmm I had a fan plugged in, but I did not make sure it was plugged into FAN 1 or 2

ahhhhhhh yesssss...

Popped the nice 2000 XP chip in. Then did one more thing... CRAP I cannot be lieve I could not remembe rto try it last night.

Somewhere I read that you need to make sure the CPU fan was plugged into the CPU connector. Well Mine was. except it was plugged into CPU2 not CPU1 fan connector. Maybe that is why the motherboard would start up and then beep like that. It was not finding the fan so it was stopping.

SO I switched that and I switched the CPU and voila... works... now to try and find the clock settings for XP2000 cuz this board don't have them automatically....might need bios update
