Abit KR7A-133R - RAM issues

Anyone know if this board has particular aversion to different makes/brands/types of PC2100 DDR ram?
If I power up mobo with nothing but ram and vga connected nothing happens. No VGA no post. I f take out the ram I get a single long beep every 5 seconds. What does this mean?:frown:

Are you populating RAM from DIMM 1 first? It is the closest to the CPU. Clear CMOS and try again. Good luck- sounds like a RAM issue.

I had a problem with a crucial stick of 256 PC2100 ECC registered in slot 1 of a kr7a-raid board. When I moved it to slot 2, there was no longer a problem.. Replaced it with a 512 unreg stick in slot one and it works fine.

The unoffical faq unoffical faq recommends avoiding 256 and 512 PC2100 ECC from crucial.

Hope this helps.

I just installed the KR7A-133 and it only detects the first DIMM with Crucial 256MB DDR SDRAM. I have another 128MB that it won't detect in either DIMM2,DIMM3, or DIMM4--any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Anyone here able to run 4 Crucial 256mb/ECC/Registered sticks in a KR7A133/R? I also have heard the ECC may be a problem?

I have a micron 256 MB. put into first slot, boot up fine, second slot, boot up fine. third slot, bootup fine.

I guess IM just lucky. Maybe Ill get another stick and try both.

I hope a bios upgrade will fix the RAM problems... I cant get my 2 sticks of Mushkin 512mb CL2 to work. Is there a beta bios out there?

I'm striping so I'm worried that if I put my other RAM stick in it might corrupt my Windows XP Pro. I couldnt install with 2 sticks. I dont want to have to do a reinstall if it doesnt work.

RAM will not corrupt your OS. It will either not be recognized, or just crash after booting most likely. Try the memory settings in my KR7A-Raid users guide post.

After thinking about it when I had the RAM in slot 1 and 2 slot 2 wasn't leveled with slot 1. And I know I had it in all the way.

I haven't had a problem yet so I think its working. 🙂
