I find it absolutely amazing how i get the one board that doesn't like the Radeon9700 Pro. My abit kg7-r board has had MANY gfx cards cause i'm gfx hardware junkie. It's had a GF4 Ti4600, GF3, GF3 Ti200, GF2 Ti, Radeon7500, Radeon8500 and have had no problems what so ever. Now we come to the Radeon9700... I get it in there, plug it into the powersupply and i get a video error bios beep. I check all connections, reseat, same thing. I unplug it from the pwr supply and i get a post on the screen telling me to plug it into the pwr supply, I do so and again i get the bios beep and no post. I then tried taking out all other PCI devices, same thing. I then tried disconnecting all drives, same beep. So then i try swapping out my ram with a brand new chip, same beep. Tried another CPU, same results.

I was beginning to think the card was bad, so i popped it in my old duron machine which has an asus a7v133 board in it, and it worked right off. I then tried it in another computer which had a Tyan motherboard, it worked again. I THEN tried it in another comp with a gigabyte board, worked in there as well. So i try it in my box with the abit board, and again it doesn't work.

Neither abit nor ati has given me any useful information about the problem i'm having. I don't see how i can be using my Ti4600 in this board for many months with no problems then switch over to the 9700 and not have it work.

Anybody else having a problem like this? Anyone know what else i can try that i haven't thought of?

thanks in advance

Did you do a complete removal of the 4600 ? all registry entries? all tweakers and utilities that came with the card.. could you be experiencing some conflict from some left overs from your last card? OOPS! this dont apply since you havent booted into window yet.. (edited)

Here is a good resource..Pauls unofficial KG7 ...

your problem is bleeding edge so chances are you the first to encounter this. If so I wish you luck..

On the lighter side of things.... DO you think you agp slot could be worn out from all that card swappin'

How big is your powersupply...This card is gonna be power hungry NO DOUBT!
can you give us a run down of what is in your system.. what pci or isa devices. how many harddrives, power suppy make and size. etc.

i highly doubt it was due to not removing all the GF4 drivers, but i've had a fresh format since then do to one of my hdd's failing so it's just my radeon8500 that's in here now, GF4 was sold :)

right now my system has:
amd XP1700+
256MB PC2400
60GB 7200rpm hdd
40GB 7200rpm hdd
8x dvd-rom
400watt PSU
and a buncha case fans.

i don't think the slot is worn due to card swapping.. i can still put any other card in here and have it work right off with no problems. the radeon9700 works just fine in my old duron computer which has the same ammount of drives & case fans with only a 300watt PSU. i also tried it in several others. i put it in this computer and i get a video error bios beep still. i recently tried swapping out the PSU and using another, that didn't help either. i'm hoping to find someone else that has this problem so i know if it's just my board or all of them so i know wheather or not to expect a bios revision that will fix it.

the 9700 will still post in my abit kg7 IF i don't plug it into the PSU, but when it does post it has a fast repeating beep and tells me i need to plug it into the PSU

The worn out agp slot was intended as a joke.. thats why it was prefaced by ON the lighter side of...
I beat ya to the driver issue.. I reread my post and retracted that info.. b4 your post..

It looks like you plenty of powersupply.. and it also looks like you did your homework..
when you find a solution could you email it to
unofficial kg7 faq.

I almost had this mother board.. but elected to wait the additional month for the Kr7a raid to come out..
I feel your pain. Today is the day of the release of UT 2003 Demo!
Good Luck
