Just switched back from the Athlon world, haven't had an Intel based system in a couple of years. Just built the following:
Abit IS7
P4 2.4c (800 Mhz FSB)
2x256Mb Kingston HyperX PC3200
ATI All-In-Wonder 9800Pro
After installing Windows XP and all the drivers that came with the motherboard (Intel INF drivers, Onboard Audio, Lan, etc) I noticed in device manager when I click on the properties for the onboard IDE controller, specifically the second channel where I have my 2 CD-Rom drives (Pioneer DVD and TDK DVD+R/RW), the DVD+R/RW drive is listed that it's running in PIO mode instead of UDMA mode. I have it set to "Use DMA if available", I figure it should at the very least be running in UDMA 33, more likely UDMA 66 mode, Not PIO mode. I've gone out to Abit's site and grabbed what they have as the latest Intel INF drivers and installed them but it's still listed the same way.
The drive is working fine but obviously it should be working at a much higher speed, especially for being a burner. Any ideas??
Thanks...JMS
