ABIT IP35-PRO weird bios problem

I doesn't happen every time, but often enough to bother.
I have new bios installed and it is not overclocked.
When I'm making any changes, let say I want to disable the logo screen on startup, and trying to save the new setting, the motherboard will shot down the PC and try to restart it but after 2-3 seconds will cut the power. It will do this 3-4 times and then it wont come up at all. I have to clear the cmos to get it to come up, sometimes I have to pull the plug on the power supply for 5 min. Under old bios it did the same thing. Other then that, it runs great. Any suggestions on whats going on here? Bad Cmos battery maybe?

Pull the power from PSU. Reset CMOS. Reflash 11 BIOS. If problem persists, then run Memtest86 test #5 for 50 loops. If okay, then you may have issue with your PSU. Let me guess...Antec?

is your memory set to the manufacturer's recommended voltage & not the JEDEC 1.8V?

I have a corsair 620 PSU and crucial 6400 2 GB memory and I was keeping it at 1.8v instead of 2.2V. But still, it doesn't make sense to me that this only happens when I'm trying to save settings in Bios. I will reset memory voltage just in case. Can I run memtest from a cd or USB stick? I don't have a floopy drive in this computer.

Install the bootable version of Memtest on CD.

I'm assuming you flashed the BIOS via abit's Windows utility, since you don't have a floppy, correct? I had a similar problem flashing mine from Windows. I couldn't save ANY settings without the system failing to POST (halting at the C1 step according to the LED display). Tried reflashing with a floppy, but couldn't resolve the problem. I'm swapping out the board for a new one.

Everyone on the abit forums recommends flashing via floppy, so I believe there may be a problem with the Windows utility. I know I won't be using it for the replacement board.

I've flashed from windows. If your system is not stable at default configuration, then you may have a corrupt BIOS. AV and other proggies can interfere with the flash. It's best to speed $5 for a floppy.

just use a bootable usb key. it's the easiest way to do it.

That's what I'm going to use with the new board. I haven't used a floppy in years!

I did flashed in windows, but the problem was already happening with the original bios and it is sporadic. Anybody has a good instructions how to create bootable usb key?

sorry to bring this up, but if you haven't already found out this;
the corsair HX psu's have some issues. my ip35 pro had the same problems with a 520hx corsair. a different psu cleared everything up. i found out about this with a google search, and it led me to the abit forums where this is becomming more common. my 520hx went back for an RMA.

Is this a problem with only IP35Pro or IP35E aswell? Since Pro has a 4/8 pin ATX connector, IP35E does not, it only has a 24pin ATX
What does seem weird is that the PSU is not allowing bios changes to be saved?

Both come with 4/8 and 20/24 pin plugs.

ah, okay - Never saw the 4/8 on the IP35-E - Only saw a CPU fan and not another connector, my bad!
I hope I get a rather problem free assembly of my computer on Thursday...seems to be a lot of problems out there ^^
4 RAM sticks was my concern, guess I have PSU to worry about aswell seeing as I got a HX620!

The #1 problem is the use of overclocking non-JEDEC compliance RAMs.

4 Sticks of Corsair twin2x2048-6400c5dhx @ 1.8V 800MHz JEDEC/SPD settings - Running 4 banks at 800 instead of 667 @ 1.9V - is that overclock?

If RAM is rated at 1.8V, then it should work. Those fancy heat pipe are marketing tools. Someone may use subpar DDR2 800 RAMs to make up for the cost of the heat spreaders. Only way to know is to install and test RAMs.

Alright, I'll just wait and see, when I'm done installing I'll see what I can do with it to make it work and just come by here for suggestions and troubleshooting if stuff ends up being non-functional

i ended up buying a thermaltake 650w modular that was on sale at fry's. since it works fine, i'll be selling the 520HX when i get it back from RMA.

4x1gb sticks work just fine in mine @ 1.96v, but they're underclocked a little.

it's not only with the abit ip35 boards, i heard some asus boards have this problem with the corsair hx psu's as well. i haven't researched it any further.

i read that it has something to do with the startup/shutdown circuits.

Well, I don't know I just seem to find it fairly weird that many sites recommend it after reviews, especially that it is johhnyguru approved, there has to be a catch, perhaps bad connections or bad setup?
I doubt Corsair is in the business of selling malfunctioning PSUs

true. you know how forums go, all you hear about is the bad/troubled hardware. there's 98% out there that don't post about their success stories.
