So I'm in the market for an upgrade of my old S939 system and have been doing some research for a couple of months. I want to get the IP35 board paired up with a 8400 and was wondering if two Patriot kits here would work.

So you want 8GB overall?

Well, yes, that'll all work together fine. You'll not see more than ~3.25GB unless you're using Windows x64.

And even if you are running a 64-bit OS, most users won't fully tax 4GB, let alone 8. If you're doing work which specifically employs that much RAM, like heavy-duty photo editing, that's a different story.

With RAM being as cheap as it is now I just wanted to get the most bang for the buck. I do a lot of video encoding. I have a 3yr old daughter and I like taking my home movies and editing them for my family that lives outside of New York. Keeps them up to date on everything that she's been up to.

Mostly I wanted to avoid any incompatibility issues with the mobo and ram.

Should be just fine. You COULD try 4gb first though, and buy another 4gb later if you do actually get limited by 4gb of memory. But, if money isn't the issue, then yes, everything will be compatible. You will be using Vista 64x, right ?
