BIOS: Modded version 19.
OS: XP
So I've searched and read about this "overvolting" issue. Mine's a little different.. or people haven't yet tested enough. When I got my rig together, everything was working just fine.
I live in a very tropical region, far far distant from any of you, or I assume. It's pretty hot here, well damn it IS HOT and so, of course, you cannot live without an air conditioner here.
##DAY1##
[aircon off]
So I got my rig together one late night, was pretty happy my RAM could do 250-2-2-2-8 (2T though, its either damn you venice or damn you abit.. (opteron coming soon, we'll then see)) Voltages all stable on my Coolermaster 450W PSU.
[aircon on]
[30 minutes later] Windows installed, tired, off I go to bed. SHUTDOWN.
##DAY2##
[8 hours later] Powerup. WEEEEWOOOOOWEEEEEWOOOOOOOWEEEEEEWOOOOOOOO sirens screaming from the little pc speaker. I was thinking... wtf whatever is up? I hit the del button.. had a look at AbitEQ.. only to find...
DDR Voltage: 3.48..0.00... 3.47...3.48...0.00...0.00....0.00..3.48...
DDR/2? : 1.77
nForce4: 1.85
nForce4 SB: 1.forgot doesnt matter
HTT: 1.44? forgot.
when actual settings were:
DDR: 3.20
nF4: 1.60
HTT: 1.2
All else seems very fine... although +12V = 12.40V is this ok? well perhaps irrelevant.
As far as I can remember, I remember getting BSOD in windows... im pretty sure.
Not realizing of the reknowned overvoltage issue, I was like, well, I HATE COOLERMASTER 450W I KNEW IT ALL ALONG. On the very same day, I sold it off (yes I did)
Then I was like whew, stupid Coolermaster GONE. Acbel 400W iPower in place, it meets specifications as per in the manual.
Yeb, it booted up fine, installed windows and all that.
[sleepzzz]
##DAY3##
next morning, WEWEWHEWOEOWEOWEOWEO or similar...... wtf? not again? OK.... I can't jump to conclusions just yet.. cuz before selling coolermaster, i saw the insides of both PSU. Coolermaster apparently OEMs PSUs from Acbel.. they are kinda like 100% exactly alike inside, with slightly different amperage... by 1-2A. virtually the same. and it only happens when I get out of bed. Immediately, I knew it had something to do with temperature.
So I did stuff like letting it on, leave it in BIOS, and not boot to Windows... let it warm up a bit first. Temps went up to 40c cpu, 32c sys, 39c pwm or something like that i really don't remember. That's pretty warm... so I thought, maybe this versions of PSU just don't like cold... Though I remember them not having any issues in cold in the past. When i say cold, i mean like 22c room temp. Tried restarting many times, the warning siren was still on.
[Aircon off]
Still, the siren goes after restarting many times. I pulled the plug for 20 secs (thinking... maybe it gotta discharge something?) Start it up... no sounds for 5-10secs, then its back. Turned it off, unplugged for a few minutes, start it up again... wooo....voltages back to normal.
So whatever, for this one week or so, till the next, i thought i can live with this OPEN setup (no case lids.. well its not that im intentionally doing this, its just convenient right now), directly under the aircon (cold air blowing right at it.. or almost)... till I get my Fortron 500W Bluestream, then I'll put all disks together and cover it all in. Nice and sexy. This time I left pc on, so I won't have this issue anymore....
[sleepzzzz]
##DAY4##
all fine. not a too cold night.
##DAY5##
WEOWEOWEO... this time I didn't wake up just to hear this. It woke me up. My pc left on, it was a cold night. I saw pc temps... they were like 30c, below.. i was actually happy with this board cuz its so cool compared to the ultra-d that I just sold. but being like 24c, 28c, 32c pwn or something like this..... the overvolt thing begins once again. so i had to shut it off before returning to bed.
Did the same thing as 2 days back, and only after unplugging the powercord for a while things return to normal.
And that's today.. I'm frustrated, so I arrived here finding that others have the problems too, but not in much details like me..
next time im gonna try is having the powercable unconnected through a cold night. thats tomorrow. wanna see what happens then.
OTHER ISSUES:
EVERY TIME this siren thing happens, well after a cold night at least..
alright, when loading windows xp.... its suppose to change resolution and enter windows. But the FIRST time after the temporary resolve to the siren thing, it'd just get stuck at a blank screen just prior to entering windows set resolution
its like this post --> bootloader --> windows xp bootscreen --> very short blackscreen period --> resolution change happens --> some delay which then enters windows logon screen
it happens at 'very short blackscreen period'
but after this first time, it's fine after that.
Also the siren is set off by the voltage warning system... just to be clear. And changing voltage always results in +0.2 to 0.25V
I'm sure they are all related.
so right now.... I have another Fatal1ty AN8-SLI board.. which i bought 2nd hand, it's meant to be my second rig when the other hardware arrive... and I'm awaiting for my Fortron 500W to arrive.
IN THE MEANTIME. CAN SOMEONE REPLICATE THIS?
