Abit BX6 rev2

I've got an Abit BX6 rev2 board. Anyone know how far I can push with a new cpu. The latest bios says 700mhz.

Best bet is to do a search in the archives on Bx6...I am sure this has been asked in the past.

What size hard drive are you using? I have another post trying to find out if ppl are having problems with >40G drives on the bx6.

Good luck.

I believe that the highest multiplier right now for the Bx6r2 is 8.0x. I've heard of a numnber of people running a 800mhz PIII with no problems.

8 may be the highest, but I ran a 633 celeron (9.5) on mine. The cpu's lock will override the bios's multiplier choice. That said, I prefer PIII's. 1/4 pci divider starts at 117.

Abit officially supports PIII's up to 700 MHZ with the QR bios upgrade (newest release)

also support celerons with multipliers up to 9.5 (633MHZ)with QR.

It's been found that CPU's with multipliers beyond 9.5 will not work.

It's also been found that PIII's beyond 700MHZ will work with user defined settings being used.

Support for hard drives above 40GB is also provided with the QR bios.

I have the bx6 1.0 and i have my 566 celeron running at 8.5 x 03 =877. The multiplier is set by the chip not the mobo.

What you say is true (except for the occasional engineering sample Intel device). It's been discovered that the BX6R2 will not support the newer 700MHZ celerons as it apparently does not recognize the configuration as being a valid CPU configuration. The bios does not automatically configure for PIII's beyond the 700E but you can use faster chips by using the user defined settings - it won't auto-detect PIII chips greater than the 700e correctly.
