Hi all...I used to use this board a long time ago but seems my profile is now gone..oh well..howdy again all...anyways heres my delema.............
I own a BH6 mobo and use it with a celeron 300a@450mhz.....I recently updated the bios to SP ....now heres where it gets wierd...the BH6 I have does NOT say it is a 1.1 or whatever..just a plain BH6 stamped on the mobo between the slots...ok fine and well..BUT the bios it was using was an older one from the 1.1 rev so I updated with the newest from that rev anyways..works fine...now I want to get a new celeron 633 and OC it to 950mhz...but this bios I installed only states 600,667,700,and stuff...the one I see that others use and the one that states 633mhz is rev SS..but its for the normal BH6..what mine is SUPPOSED to be but does'nt seem to be...well I dloaded that bios and tried to install it and it says something about wrong hardware and wont install............SOoOooooooo..the main thing here...am I screwed as to getting the celeron 633 to work on my board/bios????...do I need a new board or will it be ok on this one?...if its a new board I may just go the duron route....any help here would be GREATLY apreciated since I plan to order my new chip/slocket/gorb in 2 weeks time..thank you all.
PS Im also posting this in the cpu/OC forum for complete coverage.

You really just need to figure out whether you have a Rev 1.0X or a 1.1, and then flash with the latest BIOS. I'm pretty sure Abit just forgot to list the 633 as compatible, if it will work on a 600, 667 and a 700, it will work on a 633. Look by the last ISA slot on the board, the Rev number is silkscreened there.

yeah I did that..just says BH6...so I figure rev 1.0...trouble is it was running a rev 1.1 bios so I had to flash with the latest version of that one for the 1.1...that being SP...wierd huh...even abit states that if its a 1.1 then it will state that..if it says only BH6 then its a 1.0....but its not..crazy hehe.

i am interested if this problem is fixable cause i have BH6 with cel 450 also and with my bios i can manually select upto 9.0x now with voltage from 1.3 to 2.5v. does it say its 600 even in windows? cpu id? ive read somewhere that even if bios posts cpu wrong it'll work fine in windows or somthing

I have two bh6 mo/bo's both running 633's@950.Both mine are 1.01 mo/bo's.I suggest you d/l the ss bios, and the awd flash util, and print out the instructions on how to flash the bios, and follow it to the letter. It had been a while for me(bios flashing) and I had to go back and re-read the info.If you cock it up you will get the error mess you got,or worse, you can disable your bios chip. When you do update your bios,it will have the correct info in it.

I'm running a cel 2 633 @ 950 on a BX6, which is older than your BH6. So you should be fine. My bios is dated 3/10/2000, and it identifies my CPU as a Pentium III 900EB, but it works fine nonetheless.

Even though your multiplier only goes to 7.5 in the bios, the Celeron 2 will still work!

yeah I read the instructions..but as it has only been 2 weeks since I flashed to the SP bios I still remembered all the instructions anyways.....it wont let me flash to SS..guess because its the wrong board with a mislabeled version...oh well..no big deal..it'll work or it wont heh.

Ok.

It doesn't really matter if your board's bios says it supports the C633 or not. Here is what you need to do to make it work:

1. Make sure you have a modern bios, known to support celemines (coppermine core Celerons). It sounds like you already do.

2. Set CPU Soft menu to "user define"

3. Set multiplier to 9.5 (doesn't really matter because it is locked, but do it anyway). If it won't allow you to set it there, it shouldn't matter anyway, but if it will allow it, set it there manually.

4. Set AGP to 1/1

5. Set bus speed to 66MHz.

6. Set voltage to 1.5V.

7. Set speed hold error to "disabled".

You should now be running at 633MHz regardless of what board you have, provided that you are running a modern bios that supports 566+MHz Celerons.

Oh yeah, that's right... you wanted to overclock. :) :) :)

AFTER you get it stable running at 633, to try for 950, do all of the above, EXCEPT, set Bus speed to 100, and set AGP to 2/3. It is VERY likely that you will have to increase the voltage as well to make this work, possibly as high as 1.8V. Make sure you have a good sink and a thin layer of thermal compound.

Good luck,
