ABIT BH6 & Celeron 900 Locking up HELP!

I cant seem to get this system stable..I want it for my kids to use.
IT is an ABIT Bh 6 rev 1.01 with ss bios
celeron 900 mhz cpu
Maxtor 40 gig hd
384 megs of ram
I had the old celeron 300 a at 450 in here for 2 years or so.
anyway I got a celeron 900 at xmas and it worked ok for a bit but...WHenever I play games etc...weird things happen and lockups.
I know it is the cpu or mobo is not compatabile or maybe it is a voltage issue
when I set the cpu to 900 mhz it affects the video and sound in any game or video app.
I load some games the menu is all blocky and weird colorless look to it or some games the sound goes all screechy and high pitched noises.
I have tried different video cards even etc...
It has a regular cheap slotket on it. Does that matter?
I took the stock thermal tape off the heatsink and put thermal pase...etc.
I have tried this cpu at 900 and now at 9 x 66 mhz= 600
not much luck still...
The mobo is the abit bh6 with the ss bios.
should I try another bios or reflash ?
any ideas? what can I do to get it working?

not sure what kind the slotket is.
I put the old celeron 300 a back in at 450 no problems except games run choppy.
as soon as I put the celeron 900 in at 900 sound and video is screwed up bad.
games load but the sound is screeching and weird artifacts in the video.
then they crash.
I tried the 900 cpu @ 66 fsb =600 works better but still locks up after a while.
should I increase the voltage?
it is at default 1.75 right now
the 300a is at 2.1 volts and has been steady in this mobo for 3 years I think?
I need some help here! any ideas?

I know that that motherboard is at least 2-3 years out of date compared with the celeron you are using , so i am guessing that it is causing some confliction somewhere.
Now having a decent slotket will deffintely help esp ones with all the jumper settings built onto them.

This one from Abit seems to have all the tweaking you could wish for Here
Also here is a review of the said slotket Slotket - review

Also i notice that the bios version you have , even though it is the current one doesnt support your multiplier ,so like i said above a good quality slotket could possibly improve your problem along with the voltage tweaks you might need.

I think ss bios is the latest for rev 1.0 boards, above that is the sp bios?,not sure .Look for "old fart"(?) in these forums(cpu/overclocking) he'll know.

I doubt the BIOS is your problem, SS should be fine for the celery.

<<It has a regular cheap slotket on it. Does that matter?>>

The slotket definately can make a difference, what kind is it and have you checked the jumper settings on it? If it is not rated for coppermines, I'd consider that well worth pursuing. Can you pull it out and figure out the make/model?

I have the same setup on one of my PC's... An old BH6 that ran a 300A at 450 for couple of years, and then just got a 900 celeron for it a week or two ago. I had no problem making the swap though. It has run beautifully for me. I am running the SS BIOS so thats not the problem, but I am using an IWILL Slocket 2 adapter. You might want to swap that out first and see what happens.
