Abit BG7 Tweaking/Troubleshooting Questions

I have the latest BIOS for the Abit BG7 board...and a few questions that I couldn't find answers to in previous BG7 threads:

* What exactly does the "Enhance DRAM Performance" setting in the latest BIOS do? Can't find any docs on this...
* For some reason, occasionally when I power up my new system, I don't get "the beep" and the system doesn't boot. The drive spins a bit and the fans are on, but nothing else. I've had to power-off and power-on again (sometimes more than once) to get it to boot up again. I don't change anything or re-seat anything. Strange. There is standby power to the mobo in between these events. A few times I've turned everything off cold to see if there is a pattern, but I haven't found one yet. Sometimes it starts just fine. It comes up fine every time after reboots--once everything is working. Like all good problems, it's intermittent, and I haven't yet established a pattern.

I am not sure what the enhance DRam settings do.

May be your power supply could have something to do with your board not starting up.

Actually my board did that a couple of times. The fans would spin and then nothing would happen. I had to reseat the ram in order for it to start right. Try doing that.

I'll give the RAM re-seating a shot, but it certainly seems like a longshot.

My PSU is a brand-new Antec TruPower 330Watt. Seems to be OK.

Snake,
Sounds like the typical description of the problems I had on my Abit IT7 boards. Try this the next time the system spins up but doesn't boot. Unplug the power to the power supply for 15-20 secs. Plug it up again and see if it boots then. As for the real fix... odds are you'll have to send the board back in hopes for a better return. I had to send two IT7 boards back before getting one that didn't display some boot issue. Good luck.

The enhance DDR setting is a more aggresive memory timing for your ram. Similar to the T1 setting.
