I have had this mobo for the past 4 years running Pentium III - 500 mhz@100mhz FSB and no Overclocking. For the past 1 year I an running windows XP pro. Two weeks ago while in a Yahoo Video conference XP froze. This was repeated a intermitently and eventualy reached a stage when XP would not boot. I tried reinstalling (after a format) but XP would freeze at the Splash screen. I tried everything from re flashing the BIOS to changing RAM, Graphics card, Power Supply. I even had the mobo out of the case. Tried 3 different hard drives also. Then I changed the CPU to a slower 450Mhz pentium 3 and XP booted up fine but would consistently crash within 5 mins with DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error. All this while with bothprocessors and with any combination or cards the system would boot up and run Window 98se.
Today I tried lowering the FSB setting to 66mhz and XP booted up and has been stable without any crashes. I tried increasing the FSB till 83mhz at which XP was stable with both the processors. At 100Mhz XP would not progress beyond the XP splash screen (the splash screen XP logo does not show) with the P3-500mhz processor but would boot up only to crash with the 450mhz processor.
I am confused. What does this mean? I have tested this system with 250W power supply from another system where XP is running. What happens at 100mhz FSB which causes problems for Windows XP but doesnt cause any problems with Win98se.
Thanks
Karthik
