Abit BE6 and Windows 2000

I can not get my HPT366 controller to work with Win2k. I've tried everything, and none of it worked, i could not get it to boot off the controler. I resolved to use my hard drive on the ultra 33 controler, so i plugged my dvd drive into the hpt366, and it didn't work. I'm getting terrible transfer rates, i can't even play a dvd with it and my ultra 33 controler is much faster. Is it just me or is the HPT366 controler one of the worst pieces of hardware to ever be implemented into a motherboard. I'm open to any suggestions about how to get this thing working.

there are hpt366 drivers for win2k..

as well.. you must enable the hpt366 transfer rate in win2k via a registry setting. if i remember correctly, the setting information is available through the MS support site

The 366 is indeed one of the worst pieces of fecal matter Abit ever put on a motherboard. I gave up trying to use mine. I get a much bigger speed boost by overclocking my BE6-2 to 133mhz front-bus than I would ever get from that thing - which didn't like to boot with the overclock anyway.

My only advice is to read all the Usenet postings on the BE6 and HPT366 from others who've suffered with trying to get the thing running under 2K and XP. You'll find plenty of suggestions and links to various driver revisions but nobody ever came up with a magic bullet other than sticking a $30 Promise controller in a slot.

lol I had an abit bp6 that hated Win2k. The drivers for the hpt366 worked, but they wouldn't let me read any drive on the controller. It wouldn't boot with my ata66 drive on the controller. It worked OK in 98, but sucked in 2k.

I enabled the udma66 in the registry, and i've tried the 4 most recent drivers, but nothing worked. Even so shouldn't it be able to transfer as fast as a udma33 controler even without the udma66 enabled.

Remind me to never buy a highpoint product ever again. =)

I have the BE-6...No problems with Win2k. Before SP2, the transfer rates where lower. I have 1 Hdd on each UDMA 66 channel..and both CDrom and Writer on the 2 UDMA 33 channels. I get really good transfer rates because of this (Nobody has to share a channel).
