Have problem adding new HDD Hitachi SATA II 500 GB into Abit AV8 board chip VIA K8T800 Pro, it is not detected. The

board currently run with HDD Hitachi SATA I 160 GB. Is this compatibility issue between SATA II with VIA K8T800 Pro?

I update all latest driver, but not solve the problem.

Saw in boards people have same issue with this board, but not sure if they able to solve the problem, and how.

The HDD is detected properly in Jetway NF3 board.

Appreciate somebody help.

I would look for a jmicron driver for via chipsets. You may not find it on abit's website, since it shutdown. Check the via website, or hitachi's website.

the VIA 8237 doesn't autonegotiate very well at all with SATAII HDDs - try forcing the HDD to SATA150 compatability.

It varies from make/model to another. Some offer a jumper clip on the drive, others require software utility to change the mode in drive firmware. Check the support or technical documentation from Hitachi's website. If your make/model requires software utility, you may need to run the utility with the drive connected to another non-VIA system.
