My new abit av8 3rd motherboard came in the mail today along with my new cpu the amd athlon 3200+ (skt939 90nm winchester cpu) Well anyways I get it all to put together. It wont boot up, montor wont come out of standby mode. Im receving the post code 9.0. I looked the post code 9.0. up in the book and it saidcomplete uGuru initial process AWARD bios taking over? does anyone have a clue what does this mean? Im not sure which bios came on the motherboard. I dont think it the newest one though. I order both the motherboard and cpu from monarchcomputer.com And before I order it, i wrote to abit techsupport asking if the cpu will work with this motherboard without the bios being updated, They said yes it would work.

Sorry for the long story but can someone help me please with my problem.

Just off the top of my head it sounds like a dead board, however I'd remove everything but the CPU, RAM and video card and see if you can get it to boot. (This includes any Hard drives, CD-roms, or periferals.) Also test the monitor, and listen for beeping from your board.

Did you install a powersupply that you know works? does the powersupply's fan spin when you try to power it on? is the correct voltage set on the supply? Try removing the CPU and re-check the seating of both CPU and heatsink. Do this with the RAM and Video card also.

If all else fails, contact Monarch about having recieved a dead board.

the computer will turn on fine, all the fans, powersupply and etc power up. and i do get a beeping noise. I think it has somethen todo with the bios not recongizing the athlon 3200+ winchester cpu.

Define "beeping"? Is it a single beep or a few beeps? long then short, short then long, etc. It's starting to sound more like a cpu/heatsink seating problem, possibly ram... I would definetly try taking that stuff off and making sure you have the heatsink facing the right way.

Oh, also... Abit provides a multitude of diodes on their boards that glow red, how many are glowing for you?

it's 2 beep. The heatsink/fan is install correctly. sorta hard not to install that correctly when there a monting bracket on the motherboard and it only fits in there one way. The ram is fine. the ram was working in my old motherboard. The ram i have is corsair 3200 xms cas 2. Now for the beeping it 2 beeps. hard to explain them. there only 2 diodes that glow on this board, there a green one and a red one. The red one turns on when the system turn on. Like i Said, the motherboard probably needs it bios updated to recingize the new cpu. Abit release a new one other day updating the cpu micro code

The beeps are a message from the BIOS.

Check HERE to find out what it means.

well id finally got my computer running, and i was correct, all it needed was a bios update to recongize the cpu. so i had to take it to the computer shop and have the guy install a 3500+ in my motherboard to flash the bios, now it works with my 3200+ winchester 90nm
