Abit AT8 Memory Incompatabilities

Well, finally got my AT8, but I'm having memory issues. It won't run, or even POST with my G.SKILL Extreme PC3200. I've run Memtest 86+ for over 10 hours on this memory on two different rigs (before this one) both OCed & at stock clocking, so I know the memory isn't defective.

I've swapped out the 2 Gigs of G.SKILL for the 2 x 512 of Corsair ValueRam PC3200 CAS 2.5 from my wife's computer, and all seems well. I had to reboot a couple of times and hit reset a few times before it started booting correctly, but once it started booting correctly, it kept booting after that just fine.

Anyone who has a system running an ABIT AT8 with 2 x 1 GB of memory, please post here what type of memory you're running (exact part numbers, if possible), as well as what settings you're using, and any procedures you needed to do to get the system running stable and reliably.

There is a known problem where the Abit AT8 won't POST with CAS 2 memory installed. Try putting in the VS, setting your RAM timings to 3-3-3-7 2T in the BIOS, and then switching your GSKILL back in.

Well, tried it, and no joy. Wouldn't even boot.. kept hanging on a C1 code. 'Detect memory -Auto Detection of DRAM size, type, and ECC'

It just seems to hate this memory... and that same memory is now installed in the computer I'm writing this on.

I am running the 1.1 bios that will be released by Abit shortly.

No issues with -

OCZ PC4000 EB (amazing memory set on this board)
Corsair TwinX2048-PC400PT
Corsair TwinX2048-3500LLPro
G.Skill F1-4000USU-2GBBHZ

Where did you get the 1.1 BIOS from? I'd love to get a copy of it.

Is the OCZ you have the Platinum 3-3-2-8 or the newer Gold 3-4-3-8?

Of the memory you listed, what would you say is the best bang for the buck?

This is the OCZ memory we tested - OCZ PC4000

All of the memories listed are very good, the OCZ actually performed a little better but it was after some trial and error as the memory likes to be undervolted at the higher settings.

Abit should be releasing the 1.1 bios within the next week or so. We are continuing our testing with the Abit engineers at this time but should have it finalized early next week.

Thank you very much, Gary Key. I'm looking forward to trying the 1.1 BIOS in my board, as I'd love to run my G.SKILL Extreme PC3200 memory on it if possible, and not have to purchase yet another set of memory.

Is there anything besides the CAS2 issue and memory compatability problems that will be different on the new BIOS? Any new options?

1.1 BIOS from ABIT global
1. Support DRAM ECC Function..
2. Modify system state error after AC power lose
3. Modify some USB boot and sting fail
4. Modify CAS Latency timing issue
5. Modify auto boot up when inserted USB device.
6. BIOS compiled date: 3/10/2006

Tried that BIOS already... had more than a few problems with it :)

G.SKILL Extreme PC3200 2x1GB 2-3-2-8 still not functional in system.

Hmmm, not good. Maybe Gary has a link on a new one or possibly the guys at Xtreme Systems Forum?
