I have an AN7 motherboard in a computer that is part of a mobile unit that spends up to a week, or longer unused and powered off. During the unused state the machine is not provided any power at all. My only problem with this system is that the CMOS battery seems to dump the CMOS settings sometime before then, approximately 4-5 days of off time.

Does this fit with the average duration of charge for CMOS batteries between usage? ... or am I not wrong in thinking this seems a bit short?

Oh heh... I should have guessed.

So then, in theory, the CMOS should retain the settings until the CMOS battery were to fail?... which should be significantly longer than a few days.

Yes, the time is reset the default date/time. Though... on occasion, the time or only the settings will be off... which is kinda weird. Perhaps inconsistent battery voltage causing some corruption. Either way, I'll pickup a new battery and check it out.

I have an AN7 as well, and I have left it as long as a month powered off (hard power off at the power strip). It kept its settings the whole time.

Get a new battery. You should be able to keep your settings for years with a good one.
