Abit AN7 at Fry's $79.99

Went down to Fry's today and saw the AN7 for $79.99. It's funny because the regular NF7 is also $79.99 with the S Rev 2 at $99.99.

May be warm for some of us who are still on nForce2.

The AN7 is the update for the NF7-S, right? I'll have to check out to see if prices are the same at Outpost. I'm been considering building a HTPC and wanted NF2 for Soundstorm.

The AN7 is actually pretty different from the NF7-S. It was originally intended, I believe, to host the nF2-Ultra400 with MCP-S, but that chipset came out much after the AN7. As it stands, it's a decent board in its own right, but it doesn't have the overclocking prowess of the NF7-S.

Both the NF7-S v2 & AN7 can achieve pretty much the same o/c results.
NF7-S has more BIOS mods though...Check the abit forums for more info.

Heh, they finally stocked it eh? I don't think they would ever do that. I haven't seen say a Abit NF2-S or AN7, DFI NF2 Infinity on the shelves for a good 2 years even though the display is still there. They almost never have the high end boards there, just the low quality KT266PRO and KT400/600's. Also too bad the KT600 never took off as an enthusiast chipset since it's pretty line-in-line with the nForce2... they're mostly used in budget boards.. tis a shame!

I don't think they make high end Socket A boards anymore, just the low quality ones intended to clear out inventory of chipsets.

This is a good price though, considering online a good NF2 board can go for about $90-120. I've got the AN7, and owned a Abit NF2-S and DFI Infinity before. All these offer pretty nice overclocking features... mine's OC'd to about 2,700MHz from a measly 1,667MHz :x
