Blocking content? Fine, I'll just pirate it then, jackasses. Is that better?

sense of entitlement much?

The point he's trying to make is that the very methods studios use to combat piracy just increases and encourages piracy. Sometimes exponentially so.

Give people a good product at the price they're willing to pay with minimal restrictions on when/where/how they want to watch it, and you'll sell your product.

You don't pay million dollar productions with 1 dollar downloads.

Their original goal of those instant streaming options through the network sites or hulu was to open a new distribution method to reach people that weren't going to watch the shows on their TV. Basically, their hope was to add viewers without canibalizing any of the TV audience that watches through their network affiliates or through deals they get paid for (cable and satellite). If they make it easy for people to watch it on their TVs without going through the normal distribution channels the networks the affiliates or other distribution methods could view it as a way to cut them out of the loop and it could open the door for lawsuits.

Because of the way TV has previously been distributed there are some very complicated agreements which involve a great deal of money.

I am their exact target audience for this, and it worked exactly the way they wanted it to.

I don't own a TV and hadn't watched TV shows for years.
I don't pirate music, movies or tv shows.
As soon as Hulu came along, I got sucked straight back into the television world (which, in my defense, seems to have improved considerably in quality since the 90s.)

If you are basing ALF, we're going to have problems.

I'm gonna go ahead and say you're wrong here

You do that and the pirates have motivation.

So many PPV events fizzled because they did not make what they thought they would. Remember all the hype about the PPV boxing matches? Hollyfield vs Douglas, Tyson vs His Mom, whatever.

They just are not around quite as much now, at least not in the same model.....

Even the octagon did not go over so well.

The main problem was that there were a bunch of guys that wanted to see it, but they did not want to have to invite 10 guys over to watch it with them. Only bars bought this crap and tried to block their windows (no freebies).

there are many other reasons for not buying sony
google TV really isnt one of them

It's the only TV with built in Google TV. I've been looking into Vizio Internet Apps and I've heard it's not that great. Maybe I'll wait until Samsung comes out with one.

And what makes you think that GoogleTV is any better than Vizio Internet Apps?

The fact of the matter is that until a manufacturer comes out with a TV that has a built in DVR AND CableCARD GoogleTV is relatively pointless and cost prohibitive.

Because it's made by Google!

The 46" Sony Google TV is like $1399. I don't think that's cost prohibitive. I saw the 42" Vizio for $780...might have to just go for that.

As for built in DVR, Google TV doesn't sync with your computer hard drive and use your computer as a DVR?

Excuse my noobiness.

Sony has always gone by the mantra:

"Our cheap stuff is crap, but we are Sony, so you will overpay us for our good stuff."

Sounds like ~100 Million cell phones in service in the USA. You know, where the USA has some of the most expensive cellular plans in the known universe.

No. You still require an external DVR provided by your cable company. GoogleTV allows you to use Google search to search its contents.
