Ab workouts

Can any one suggest some ab workout videos, preferably available from Netflix?

I've definitely hit a plateau just doing situps with a bar under my door and crunches on a ball. Busting out 150 situps with the door bar and several sets of 75 crunches on the ball is dull. Not to mention, doing situps with the door bar rubs the skin on my back raw.

I would prefer videos that I can follow along with, keeps it interesting and makes it easier to maintain a pace. Reading papers while trying to work out is a pain.

I should have added that 1) I'm a cheap bastard and 2) I'm currently unemployed. So I'd rather not spend any money.

I have been meaning to buy a 25lb weight for situps, but its never really been a priority purchase.

Fill an empty milk jug with water and hold it with your arms fully extended over your head. Cheap and suitable. If that gets easy, fill it with sand from the park or somethin' :p

Why are you doing so many situps anyway? That just sounds like overkill.

Thats an idea, I have a milk jug that will be empty in another day or so. :)

1. Abs are made in the kitchen. You seem to have exercise under control; focus on nutrition now.

2. Do crunches like this: lift your shoulder blades off the ground, flex your stomach as hard as you can, and exhale for a few seconds. After about 20-30 reps like that, you should be worn out. Do that 5 days a week.

Great diet + proper exercise techniques = awesome results! :)

Hm, I have to say don't ever do anything 5 days a week, especially if you're involving weight. You need to let your abs rest and heal like any other muscle in your body. Do it a max of 4 times a week with 1 day on, 1 day off. There's no need to do it every day.

Welcome to olympic crunches ;-)

If those are too tough, you can do these instead
(BTW that's not me!)

I thought about getting a pullup bar, but my mechanical skills are . . . lacking. I seriously doubt my ability to properly secure the bar and would end up falling on my ass and damaging the door frame.

That pic looks like an ass rash in the making.

that seems really intense

Yeah, I don't think I can do hat. :p

well you wanted harder ab exercises ;p

pole vaulters do this one so thats where i got it from. it's harder for guys with thick legs as you have to lift your knees up and kick up. if your strong you can kick more then 9feet up but it really hammers the abs. great exercise. the swing forward does nothing to help you get your feet that high though1

notice the straight arms. i am not 'pulling myself up' on the bar. you are hanging
-lift knees up
-kick up hard so that you get your shins at least past the bar
-keep arms straight
-repeat for 10reps1

it's an amazing ab exercise. my abs aren't only strong but really hard.

once my you get it down it is a lot easier to do. THINK EXPLOSIVE. lift knees and then KICK UP AS HARD AS YOU CAN. aim for shins to be past the pull up bar1
