AAHH XP wont let me play HALF-LIFE!

I did a complete fomat of my HD and now i cant play HL

First i cant even go into the game, I double click the icon and nothing happens.

Second When i try to update 1.008 the installer only goes to like 10 % then says " An I/O error occured while installing a file. This is usually caused by a bad installation media or currpot installation file" It cant be because i d/l the file 3 times.

It also says the exact same thing when i try to install counter strike!

I wish I could help you guy, but Im having the same problem....sorta. I did a clean install with XP pro, and had to install all my stuff again. When I tried to install Half-Life, i would insert the cd, the autorun thing pops up, i click install, and nothing happens. I open task manager, and wowexec.exe and setup.exe are using no memory.....I end program them, and i get an error about the windows 16 bit subsystem being unstable. I haven't been able to find ANYTHING to help me....it sucks....Im sorry buddy
