Aaargh, I hate waiting

Last Friday evening I got an e-mail from a potential employer saying they'd seen my resume and were interested in me. They asked several questions including salary requirements and when I'd be available for an interview. I respond on Sunday evening so the HR person would have my response when she got in to work on Monday morning. Since then, nothing. How long does it take to schedule an interview? I really hope they weren't jerking my chain :-/

Doesn't always mean they aren't interested. Sometimes it takes me far too long to get back to a candidate just because I can't get past all of the other interruptions and responsibilities at work.

Yeah. I also realized that the HR lady who contacted me lives on the other side of the country so scheduling things might take a while. Still annoying though.

I've had a LOT of shit over the course of the past 5 months

1) Employer that required ALL applicants/interviews who come to HR to take fucking IQ test - this included one's where it had shapes that would spin 90 degrees in each picture, you guess what the next picture box would look like - some of them were actually pretty damn tough. Then they had a 30 minute section on word problems with no calc - plenty that required working out/solving on paper. I had an interview, thought it. I haven't had these problems since college obviously, I did OK - they interviewed me afterwards, thought it went well - then was denied =/

2) PLENTY are demanding a) Salary requirements b) Current Salary - those 2 items (especially together) are completely deadly. They are going to judge you based on: Are you asking for too much? Are you asking for too little and desperate/unskilled? It is very clear they will toss you out like trash based on this question alone.

As far as not receiving a response? Keep fishin' - and late response can definitely be from backlog via holiday season catchup.

I have a friend who's a manager at another big gov't contractor. When I got the Current Salary question I was going to say I'm not allowed to disclose but I checked with her first. She said just give them an honest answer. I wasn't a fan of disclosing that information but oh well. TBH I'm not that worried about pay (if I get this job I'm sure it'll be decent, and the benefits are bound to be better than my old employer's) I care far more about getting work that doesn't bore me to death.

yeah your current salary is 100% irrelevant to the new position. the only purpose they want it is to know if they can low ball you or not.

I agree. Unfortunately disclosing that sort of thing seems to be standard practice around here. Oh well, if they never respond to me it'll all be irrelevant anyways.

When applying for the job I have now they asked me for my current salary and my salary requirements. I gave them both, and the salary I asked for was a 30% raise. The HR person was a little caught off guard, but they gave it to me.

Gotta have the stones to ask sometimes.
